The rear sight is NM sight. It has a blue finish on it that does not match the original green parkerising that was applied when it was new. The serial put is as a March of 1944 production. I was told the barrel was replaced. It is marked 9SA6 45. I assume that means the barrel was produced in 45. The only other part I can see that was replaced is the trigger housing. It is a Winchester Arms manufacured part. I just got a new front handguard as the one on the rifle is pretty beat up on the bottom edges and the liner is missing. I have not had a chance to shoot yet but I can't wait!

Sounds like you might have a shooter there, especially if someone has gone to the trouble of changing the barrel & fitting the NM sight. I take it that you know how the NM rearsight works? Let us know how it shoots.

What do you mean all of that recoil. I own an M44 and i love it. Maybe i don't want to send more than 50 rounds down range in a few hours but then with the price of the ammo in Australia i can't afford to. I'd rather play with my M44 than the exes 12gauge single 20inch barreled shotgun.
But then he'd rather shoot the shot gun than my M44. It's just about the way it fits in to my body.

From 1 newbie to another have fun here.

In theory I know how it works. I found a great websight that went through how to fit it to the rifle and then the proper procedure as to how to sight it in. The rifle was sold to me as a shooter. They guy I bought it from told me from the start the barrel date did not match but it had very strong rifleing and the rear sight was replaced. He claimed to about to do 4" groups with it from the standing position at 100 yards. I guess I will find out when it stops raining here.

Moisineer I would not mind owning a M1 carbine too. My freind has two of them and they are alot easier on the shoudler. My Grandfather carried one during WWII and I have a sigle round from his Carbine that he brought home with him. I have looked around and I have not seen much in the way of surplus ammo for the carbine though.

Thank you for the welcome frenchy. I use old shirts cut up into pathces to clean the barrels of my rifles. I find I can jam then down the barrel and pick up alot more junk than the standard patches that do not fit as tight.
