Nube to owning WWII collectable rifles

Well I spend some time reading alot of the post here and I think this is the place for me to ask all of my nube questions. I do not take myself very seriously and I generally do not get along well with people that do. From reading some of the posts here you guys seem layed back and my type of crowd so I thought I would register and enjoy your company. I have been shooting rifles for many years but they always belonged to someone else and I only got to shoot if I was invited along. I am an avid WWII buff and a bit of an expert on WWII aircraft. I recently decided to expand my intrest in WWII and start collecting WWII era rifles. In theory I know everything about these weapons but I never had much of a chance to actual fire them. This spring a freind was purchasing a Mauser 98K and I asked if he would not mind ordering two because I wanted one. Now I have the bug. After going to the range and shooting his Mosin M1944 I decided I wanted one. I ended up purchasing two Finnish M39's. Just last week I ran into someone looking to sell a Korea era M1 Garand and a load of 30.06 in clips on bandoleirs. I purchased the rifle and I am now in the process of learning all about them and fixing all of the little things the previous owned did'nt. Looking foward to posting with everyone and learing as much as I can.

You read my mind. Right now it is a toss up between a 03 Springfield or an Enfield. I am on a budjet so I can only buy one rifle every 3 or 4 months. Man is it hard to chose! I have been looking around at some SMLE's lately. I am hoping to find a model V if possible but if the price is right I would settle for an earlier version.

Hello and welcome to G&G killsnapz. Glad you finally joined us.

I like WWII stuff. The movies also. I especially liked Band of Brothers.

Have you considered an SKS? Great for those with a budget. Ammo is relatively cheap. Right now I think ammoman.com has it $299 for 1000 delivered??? I know, not exactly WWII. lol But fin as hell to shoot. And did I say the ammo is relatively cheap still? lol

While I always consider the price of the ammo when I am considering buying a rifle I am really partial to bolt actions. The only semi auto rifle I have right now is a M1 Garand. You have to own at least one M1 if you are a WWII guy. I do not know much about SKS rifles besides the fact that they are inexpensive and cheap to shoot. I have a rough idea of what I must have first. I must have a SMLE a Springfield 03 and at least a couple of Mosin 91/30 rifles. Forget about the Mosin M1944. I have shot my freinds and I did not like it at all. Not enough stock to soften all of that recoil. My 2 M39's are much more comfortable to shoot and the trigger and bolt action is much smoother. To many rifles not enough money!

JMHO, but get the Springfield '03 first. Those are the hardest to find, and getting scarcer by the day. I believe I'm needing one myself!

Welcome to the site!!! You state you have all these mil surp rifles....bear in mind that as far as this site goes, if you don't post pics, then they don't exist!

Make sure to post some pics on the roll call threads in their respective forums! We like gun porn!!!!

Thank you everyone for the nice welcome. I posted pics of the Garand in the M1 forum but I did not notice a roll call for the 98K or Mosin Nagant on the topic threads for thoses. I gues I will look a little harder. here are some pics.
The Garand

The 98K 43 DOU vintake R/C

Then the two Finnish M39's

The scoped one is in really nice shape. The stock on the other one is dinged up a bit but the both have great barrels and alot of the blueing is gone. I have not clean the bottom one yet and it is still covered in cosmoline.

Cool

Make sure to post in the Mosin Nagant section. Asou will soon see, Mosinitis is not cureable. Once infected, you must buy more!

Thumbs up

Invest in a good rubber recoil pad - it tames these beasts and you can enjoy a full day at the range! And welcome to G&G!
