Something you should know, when you say "holographic sight" you are talking about a very specific type of optic. "Red Dots" are NOT holographic, they are LED based sight systems. The Only holographic sights on the market are EoTechs, the Bushnell Holosight and whomever makes the sight for the P90, though I don't know where you would find one. Holographic sights use a film of holographic material that is embedded with thousands of reticle images that become visible when hit with a laser. That is why holo sights have considerably less run time than red dots as it takes more power to run a laser than it does a LED.
Just wanted to clear that up as there seems to be some confusion as the sight types are not the same. That said here are some +/-'s of each type.
Red Dots
+'s
- Can find cheap mfr's
- usually more battery life
-'s
- parallax is an issue
- visible from the front of the tube
- using a magnifier increases dot size
Holographic sights
+'s
- 0 parallax
- can use a magnifier without increasing the size of the reticle
- reticle is the same size no matter how far away it is
Word of advice about the cheap red dots. I have three that have been blown out from using them on my 7.62x39. They ended up either having glass come loose or the led flickering in and out. Some of these cheaper red dots are either designed to only be used on .22's or they should never be placed on a real rifle.
I would suggest saving up some more money and get yourself something nice, it will save you money in the long run.
