| Advice on growing facial hair
I'm twenty years old, I started shaving about a year ago. Kind of a late bloomer I guess. That's me in the first picture, the blonde hair doesn't help. How do I end up like Big Paul Sr? does that just take years and years of growing? Does shaving it repeatedly help it grow faster or should I just let it be?

| Well, I have a big full beard and mustache
I started about four years ago and I must admit to going through various
trimmings and shapings to get it where I now like it.
As it is white I have been asked to play Santa Claus at a local charity event this December.
It is not so much growing it as it is caring for it (cleanliness does matter) and shaping it.
Every man grows at a differing rate but I feel you could have the Paul look
in a couple of years.

Just let it be and trim it from time to time so it doesn't look like an untended hedge. it will fill in, in time.
When I got out of the Zoo having just turned 22, I looked like I was about 15. My second ship as a Third Mate had a captain from Alabama who took one look at me and started referring to me as "boy." So I decided to grow a goatee. After enduring three weeks of comments from him like, "Boy, do y'all ever wash yer face afore ye come on watch?" he started referring to me as "Mister Mate." I figured that was an improvement on "boy," and I've had some sort of a beard or mustache ever since.

In my job I have to deal with a lot of customers face to face. When I am clean shaven they always ask to speak with the manager. When I respond, you're already speaking to him they always give me this look like...You're just a kid. There is a small gap between where no hair is currently growing will that fill in?

| Try fish oil...
... the dietary supplement... not rubbing fish slime on your face!
When I was taking fish oil a few times a day to try to help w/ cholesterol, I noticed my hair and fingernails grew much faster than normal. Maybe just me... but maybe the extra proteins and fats in there help those kinds of tissues grow faster.
However... be forewarned that overdoing it with the fish oil tablets (especially if you drink a lot of coffee, as I do) can cause some SERIOUS DISTURBANCES in your lower GI tract ... thus I no longer take the dang things!
(Sorry for the edits! )

I think in my entire existence I might have drank 3 cups of coffee. I'm not really a fan.

Every man is different. I have always worn a beard, but the cheeks were very hard to fill in and actually were much more sparse than the mustache and chin hair. So now it's a small handlebar mustache and a zz-top beard. It's a slow go, however. It's a myth that frequent shaving will promote growth. Don't be discouraged if you have a couple of years of trimming and training the hair. You have to train it. When it gets longer you might want to try a small dab of mustache wax on it for training and appearance. In the meantime, let the customers stand in disbelief. It's how you perform, not your age!!!

LOL I'm 27 and still don't have much hair on my cheeks (face cheeks you perverts, LOL)...it depends on your ethnicity I guess. I'm just enough Native American to not be hairy. My Dad is 62 and can't grow a mustache...neither can my brothers.

Everyone is different. I had to start shaving when I was about 17(it was patchy, but still needed it) and a year or so later started working on mustache and goatee. It takes a while to fill in on the sides and it DOES help to shave it. The more you shave, the faster it'll come back. It's not noticeable week to week, but over a couple months you'll see it. That being said, after a while it gets to where you wish it wouldn't grow so confounded fast because then you have to shave more...and if you're like me and shaving irritates your face, you'll either deal with the irritation or do what I do and shave once a week for church. I don't give a rip if I look scruffy the rest of the week.

Kinda weird when you have to put on a shirt to see if you shaved low enough so you don't peek-a-boos sneaking over your collar....

Hell, I'm 27, greek and italian, and look like a 6 foot tall ewok. If I didn't shave for a week I end up looking like Grisley Adams!
Why do Italian men wear gold chains?
To remind them where to stop shaving!

When my 17 year old son tries to grow a beard, I tell him to put some milk on his face and let the kitty lick it off.
