Bolt Action .22?

After a certain other handgun purchase I'm looking to get a new .22 rifle in bolt action....liked my mossberg but...hated the sights and everything...used a scope instead....either way sold it when I was low on cash.

What are your suggestions?

I'm willing to spend enough to get the CZ 452 or 453 I guess...but if a cheaper rifle with just as much accuracy is available (and in wood) then I wouldn't mind any suggestions to what to get.

my bro. bought the cz-452 with the mannlicher stock and he said that it was the most accurate rifle right out of the box that he had ever shot. was getting 1/4" groups at 50 yds. with no adjustments to the sights.

I would not hesitate one bit on the CZ's in question, you will be very pleased with either one you choose, accurate, dependable and well built....

Eh...the marlin looks kind of iffy when I look at it...the bolt doesn't look to well built from the pictures....of course pictures don't mean crap unless you touch the thing....sadly I haven't gotten to....I have picked up some other .22s

That ruger looks nice...and it seems it uses the 10/22 mags?....but man they are expensive as the CZ so I might as well go with that one....I also want a heavy barrel so CZ has that too in the varmint.

I'm going all CZ then as my handguns going to be a P-07 :3

I am right that the CZ 453 is just the 452 with the single set trigger right?

Also nice pictures....is that a suppressor on the end of it and a bigger knob?

+1, got my 452 , only thing I did was spend a little time with some oil and compound on the bolt, to take out the slight grittiness. Now it's perfect, and insanely accurate. Also, it's a full size rifle that fits me right. A lot of .22's are kinda smallish.

I don't know if they are still produced, but I have a Remington model 514 bolt action .22.
Great little gun. single shot, accurate, lightweight, easy to takedown and clean and reassemble, and inexpensive.

Aye that's why I like the Varmint...I wanted something heavy barreled and not to light like the Mossberg 802 I had...not a very good gun...alright as a pick me up rifle...but not fun....I already got a cheapie .22 scope so getting the gun I can go straight to shooting somewhat.

If you want a bolt action .22, I would get a Marlin .22 Magnum or maybe even a .17 HMR. If you want a .22 LR, get a semi-auto Ruger 10/22.

I'm not a big fan of the 10/22 myself.

I like bolt actions in my rimfires....the only semi auto I'm liking is that GSG-5.

Then buy a Marlin 60 or Remington 597

Like I said I'm not a big fan of the semi auto .22s to much...least not right now.
.22 ammo is cheap but I want a bolt action because with a bolt action essentially it takes longer for me to expend ammo so it feels like I have the infinite ammo bandanna ala MGS

You REALLY oughta try a Marlin 925 or 925M

Bolt doesn't look well made in the pics?? must be some mighty bad pics...
the 25MN, (precursor of the 925M) is capable of some mighty precise shooting...I've posted my fair share of dime to quarter size groups @ 100 before they took away the gallery.

And it's a standard Marlin Barrel...the heavy barrel is the 982-VS...even more precise.

All ya need with a Marlin is a trigger job, maybe pillar bedding...at worst a total of about $100-125 extra if you have a gunsmith do it, and you have a CZ killer. We've been shocking people with these inexpensive American Made rifles for three years at the local range.

You don't have to spend $500 to get a great rifle. But some folks are hooked on "European is Better!" instead of putting their money & time into American Made Products that can do the job LESS EXPENSIVELY!!

But hey, we don't need to keep jobs in the USA, do we??

I really like the Mauser action though...unless the marlin is mauser...it doesn't look it.

And I get the whole Buy american....but CZ makes good rifles....I wouldn't be buying it because European is better...I'm buying CZ because I trust them.

But if you can find me that VS in wood...then I'll consider it...all I'm seeing is poly and I don't want poly on my .22 after my last one...I want wood.

Interesting.

I got hold of a 925 in .22 Magnum it was around 225 at a pawn shop which I think is a bit to much used I guess....either way. Surprised by the action and the weight of the gun but I'd rather have 22LR than .22 magnum.

I also got hold of a Winchester Pump action 9 something model....fun gun in .22 for around 500-600 haha....I wonder if those Rossi/Taurus Copies hold any merit...I wouldn't mind a pump action .22 either.

Suggestions on pumps?
