Many still experiencing gun and ammunition shortage
Whether shopping online, at Wal Mart or local sporting goods stores, gun enthusiasts continue to forage for .45 caliber bullets, handguns and tactical rifles fallout from what some would say has been a perfect storm of economic and political change over the past 10 months.
In this medium-size city there is no shortage of many popular types of tactical rifles, whether numerous versions of the AR-15 or civilian clone of the M-14, nor handguns.
A very popular store in the city here has a long wall full of black 'tacticool' .223 caliber rifles.
There are many selections available at both gun stores and gun shows.
Most visitors at the latest gun show, in my area Sept 19-20, appeared only to have been looking, based on acquaintances who rented tables, in order to sell guns.
Apparently the decline in prices for ARs and large selections now combine to create anxiety in many opportunistic sellers who want to prop up prices.
I haven't checked the local Wal-Mart or K-Mart, but the local Dunham's had one box of .30-30s. It was a "special edition" box for $32.99.......
It will probably be worth that someday, but not today.
I'm going to the (real) gun shop this week to buy some powder and supplies (if they have any) and will check on the .30-30s there.
I am using .30-30 as an indicator of how the ammo supply is going. That stuff should be damn well everywhere this time of year, with rifle deer season a month away.
The Walmart by me never has any "defense" calibers. A box here and there of 55gr. .223. Quite a few boxes of hunting calibers as well as hunting shotgun shells. But I have not been able to buy one box of 9mm, .38, .387+P, .357, .40S&W or .45acp...in the past 9 months.
Well, I take that back. I found 2 boxes of MagTech but it was at a Walmart about 20-30 minutes away. I regretfully bought them. There were more then two, but I didn't get greedy and left them for someone else...Well, I mainly only bought two boxes because I'm not a big fan of that dirty MagTech stuff. lol But nothing "defense" caliber wise at the Walmart 5 minutes away from me for at least 9 months.
But yea, still a shortage of "defense" caliber ammo in many places, still a shortage of rifles in some places, but many places have had their inventory of rifles replenished. In fact, many now can't get rid of them because of the prices. Problem relevant at gun shows as well. Again, due to the prices. Call it price gouging or greed. Either way it means the same thing. People are fed up and won't pay the high prices. At least this person won't...

The Walmarts around here stock neither firearms nor ammunition, so I can't go by that. But my favorite gun shop has all the 12-gauge, 20-gauge 7.62 NATO, 7.62 ComBloc, 7.62x54R, 9mm and .45 ACP you could ask for. Prices have gone up a couple of dollars per box on the pistol ammo, but they've dropped slightly on the military rifle ammo. The shotgun shells seem to be about the same. He still has primers, too, but now you have to ask for them; he keeps them in the back, not out front.
I was talking to my friends in the biz and was told 380's are going to come up short again soon
I think it will too because with the new defensive and potent .380 cartridges some manufacturers have some out with, as well as the new guns made for it, and because it's a good choice for as well as it can be and is the choice of many police officers for a back up, and because it's a round many woman like, it could just be short for quite some time???
My thoughts on it anyhow...

Just got back from the KnobCreek Machinegun shoot. Ammo was plentifull (except for .380) and was priced lower then I have seen for quite awhile. I found 500 rounds of 308 Brown Tiger for $199. Everything else was priced decent too.
Wally's locally has the occasional box of 9mm or .45ACP - but never any .38 Special or .357 Magnum. Nothing for revolvers at all.
Fairly good selection of hunting rifle calibers - good thing as hunting season is getting close and Bubba needs to sight in his deer rifle.
As long as bubba buys his .243Win, .308Win and .30-06, I will have plenty of .308 and 8mm Mauser brass.
What worries me more, is I still find NO .22LR at Wally's, since before the Immaculate Deception of 2008. If the American ammo companies are too busy to make it due to other contracts, we should be seeing a lot of foreign makers stepping up and reaping the profits of increased sales.
Had to go to Walmart today, well Sat. for those who may read this on Sunday, lol, and to my surprise, they actually had something I could use. 50 and 100 count boxes of Win. white box. I could only afford 1 box of the 100 @ $29.97 and they also had 2 boxes of Remington 9mm, but both different. One was UMC and the other was the PMC I think? But both were $11.47 so I bought both. Had to buy less food, lol, cuz I used some of my grocery money. lol
I'll just shoot some friggin' food if I get hungry and or need to. lmao
But yea, Wally World had some friggin ammo. lol
