Fun with gun shows

I was at the Rock County Rifle and Pistol Club's gunshow today, looking for Carbine mags and a couple sling/oiler combos..

Well, one guy had what I wanted and his prices were typical gun show inflated, but within reason.. Basically, pay him or order and pay the same after shipping costs.

Anyway, on his table he had a few 15 round carbine mags for $15, and one lone BW Winchester mag that had seen better days for $20. He also had 3 mags in the wrap (fiberglass and sticky tape) for $18 each. I asked if he knew who the manufacturer was on the ones still in the wrap??

Nope, was the answer.. I bought one, and a few other items from him. When I got to my car, I opened the wrap on the one mag.. Brand spanking new BW Winchester mag..

I wandered back in and bought the other 2.. $20 for a beat up mag, or $18 for a new one.. Sometimes you win..

To bad you missed out when the CMP was selling mags 2 years ago. They were all GI, of varied makers. They always gave you some that were new in wrapper, some used. Cost was $45 for 5. I believe they had a 2 set limit. I bought 2 sets. (10 mags)

I bought a single GI 15-rnd carbine mag from the CMP just to see what they looked like/had, I got it earlier this year. I don't recall the manufacturer (I have many of these mag's), but it was in great shape, good finish, no bents or rust!

I picked up just one sling and oiler from him, as well as some P38 and P51 can openers to stash in my motorcycles.. I also got 2 boxes of "Interarms" ammo. Inside the Interarms box, is another sealed box that I believe is in French?? I'm not sure.. Maybe you guys can figure it out??

Sounds like a good find there. Sometimes you DO win. I'd say my biggest victory at a gun show came with a $125 1954 K31 or else my 1905 Tula M91. Got a BIG show coming up here near the end of Oct. that I'll definitely be there to check out. Saving up a little cash. Still got one more payday before then anyways

Check the case length on that french ammo. It may be the short cased stuff that the french made for carbines that were allowed to be kept in
france. If it is, then the ammo is very likely corrosive.

The case and overall length is the same as the Hornady, Privi, and Wolf ammo I currently have.
The bottom of the case is marked.
7.62 on the bottom
1-62 on the top (very differend than the 7.62)
VE on the left hand side of the rim base
BD on the right hand side of the rim base

If it is January of 1962 ammo, it's newer than the 1959 ammo I shot at my last CMP match.

The language is French and the only other French speaking country I'm aware of that has any industry to speak of is Canada (officially bilingual) and if made there, the label would have English, too.
