Sold my AR for $1200 at the gun show this weekend and bought a CHERRY AK-47 for $460 out tha door brand new in the box. This is the 4th AK Ive owned and I looked it over, very nice rifle, nothing canted and everything totally straight. Century Arms GP 1975. Im out of the AR scene but back in the AK scene. Feels good to be back. Im going tomorrow to try and get a Saiga 12. They want alot on the tables for them, one guy wanted $599, the other wanted $700...

I haven't shot one of these but the shop where I work part time has one on the wall. It looks just as you described, nothing canted and it seems like a good blank canvas for modifying if that's your thing. Congrats on the new rifle, can't wait for the range report, and welcome back to AK land.

Nice rifle. Cant go wrong with a Kalashnikov. As far as saiga 12 goes. Check Centerfiresystems.com Im not affiliated with them whatsoever but they have really reasonoble prices and I always buy my saigas from them.
Honestly, I would highly suggest getting a chance to handle the Saiga-12 before purchasing.
I have 3 big reasons I don't lust after them anymore:
One thing I found when I picked them up was how danged heavy it is compared to other shotguns. Even the one I handled with the plastic side-folder.
I realized that if I ran out of ammo, it would take forever to reload a magazine compared to doing so with a bottom-fed tubular mag like on a Rem 870 or Mossy 500. It's a lot easier to grab a shell off a bandolier or carrier and shove it into a tube than it is to drop a mag, reload it and reinsert. Also, preloaded mags are WAY more bulky than slung and carried shells.
The Big One: the two Saiga-12's I've handled have had serious feed issues. It wasn't every mag, nor was it every time someone handled them. But when I've seen two firearms that have 4+ FTFd's each, I start questioning the quality of all such firearms.

I've heard about reliability issues too and + 1 on the weight.

What is that, a Bulgarian AK? Those, apart from the Saiga AK sporters, seem to be the best built of the foreign AKs I've handled at the local gun store. They are the only two AKs that tempt me from my loyalty to the SKS in the 7.62x39 round. What I really want is a Saiga in 7.62 NATO.

It's Romanian Cyrano, I had to check into it when the one in the shop appeared.

looks like you missing the cleaning rod. imy last ak i bought didn't have one one it too. nice gun though have fun shooting her.
I noticed that too, but considering I can (and have today) buy a cleaning rod for $10, I wasnt too worried about it. I did ask the guy selling it if he knew where it was. His reply was "Ill get you a cloths hanger" He was kidding with me and actually a nice guy. I wasnt sweating it, I got the rifle for $460 even. And thanks! I think shes nice too

From what I gather its an American receiver and barrel with Romanian parts. The parts are very nice no odd milling etc that you can sometimes find on AK variants. Nice oxy finish too. Of the 4 AKs Ive owned previous to this Id say this one is as nice as my Saiga. I was actually going to purchase a Saiga .223 until I came across this at the gun show. The Saiga was $400 and converting it to pistol grip would have put me at more than this rifle cost. It also seems that 7.62x39 ammo has come down a bit. .223 seems to be a little on the higher end these days. Found 1000 rounds of 7.62 wolf for $229
