It won't go bang

I have a problem with a Remington 03A3 that I have owned about 3 years. I have only shoot the rifle about 2 times since I have owned it. I went to shoot it today and it wouldn't fire. The bolt would cycle but the saftey would function, and it would click but no dents at all on the primers. I have never take the bolt apart but I have the feeling there is just an assembly problem on the bolt. I kept messing around with it and at one point I unscrewer the back of the bolt and the firing pin came out. Every thing looked O.K. and I was able to get every thing back together.

I can manually pull back on the knob at the back of the bolt and cock it but it still won't fire. If I pull back all the way on the knob and hold it back I can activate the saftey, but when I take the saftey off the knob clicks in part way, and then the rifle still won't fire. I think the problem is related to the bolt and the fact that the saftey won't activate, but I'm a little out of my league here.

Thanks in advance for the help.

To unscrew the bolt, place the safety in the up position. (not all the way to the right). Remove bolt from gun. Press the little button and unscrew. There should be no loose parts. Screw it back in. You may have to press the button. If you snap the safety off once it is screwed back in, you should see the firing pin protruding from the face of the bolt. To cock it again you will have to pull the knob back and slip the safety up again as you hold the knob back. If you did not see the pin protrude, you will have to replace the striker. That is the part most people think is the firing pin.
Does the bolt snap when you pull the trigger, or is it hanging up and not moving foward? Another words when the knob is pulled back and the bolt is cocked, will it snap foward when you pull the trigger. Last thing, make sure the safety is all the way left and down.

Yes it snaps forward, but no strike on the primers.

It worked!

Thanks for the explanation M14man. The "little button" tip was what helped me. I have never taken the bolt apart, but probably the last time I took it apart and cleaned it I must not have bumped it and it wasn't lined up when I put it back together.

I am glad it was something you could correct and not have caused you any expense. Enjoy!
