Welp, I took Michael (youngest grandson) hog hunting last light and it rained all night long. I didn't sleep much (we were in our Mack sleeper deer-blind), because I kept waking up to scan the field. I woke up again @ about 0645 as it was just getting light. When I looked out of the window, there were pigs everywhere in and around my trap. I shot a nice 150+ lb. boar and had full intentions of selling the 200 lb. sow that was in the trap (the little ones were small enough to get through the net wire, so they got away.), but she forced her head through the wire and got stuck, so I had to shoot her too. All-in-all, a good night and morning if I can walk after loading and gutting them. I skinned and quartered the boar because I didn't realize the processor was open yet and gave the sow to my husband-in-law. He told me they were open so I hauled my quartered boar out there too. If you look at the last pic, you can see my boar going down after being hit with a 130 gr. Rem. Core-Lokt out of my .270 Win. BTW, I added a few other pics just for the time-line. FWIW, I was aming just ahead of the shoulder for a neck shot, but ended up about 2" back (need to check scope), the bullet went through the ft. edge of the shoulder and blew two verterbae out the other side. The exit wound was about the size of a tennis ball. The first pic is of me baiting the trap.
Looks like that little buck may be a good one in a couple years!!! Glad you had a successful trip! And the rain, yeah, its in Texarkana too. What a mess, tried to go to my parents and had to turn around twice because of flooded creeks! The third route proved to be passable, but still had to go through three slightly flooded creeks.
That'd be my wife's ex-husband. He coined the phrase several years ago... It's also a good thing we get along as well as we do-he's filling in for me @ work this morning because I can barely move after all of that activity yesterday.
Welp, it looks like we're going again tomorrow night, so wish us luck. The pigs around there are pretty smart, so we may not see them for awhile. I sure wish it was deer season tho...
Thanks guys. This trip wasn't as good, but we still ended up with a 100-120 lb. sow in the trap yesterday and I popped 1 baby as they scattered. There was another large sow that got into the cotton field, but she was headed straight for the house, so I couldn't take a shot. when she turned, I chased her for about 1\4 mi., but lost her in the tall cotton. when we went back to get the sow in the trap this A.M., all of her babies had come back and I got two more with my PA-63. Saw probably 75-100 deer and almost ended up with a small spike in my other hog trap, but he was smart enough to just stick his head under the door as far as he could reach and eat all of the corn. All-in-all, a fun night but I'm exhausted.
