Where has my rifle's, and my, favorite ammo all gone? This stuff used to be everywhere, and now I can't find it anywhere. Anyone seen it lately? I'm thinking I might need to buy a few spam cans so I don't have to shoot up my good stuff.

And a question... Is this stuff from Czechoslovakia or the Czech Republic?

If YOU really loved her, or me, you'd hand over some of your old reloading equipment to get me started!

Come on R5, bring a newbie into the reloading hobby, it'll be your good deed for the day!

wish i could help ya out. i just got into it about a year ago. still learning the ins and outs and haven't accumulated enough stuff to have "spares" yet. it's kinda fun making your own and finding out what your rifle really likes. making small groups on paper gets as addictive as collecting milsurps! a simple simgle stage press and the proper dies aand a few other things are all ya need to get started. lots of deals on used presses out ther. you might look into it.

If you handload for your Mosins find out what bullet weight they like. Usually they prefer either the heavy or light ball and sometimes both do equally well. But mine HAS to be the odd Mosin out. SHe likes the mid-range weight bullets, 165-168 grain, so thats what I load.

Here you go; https://www.southernohiogun.com/inde...-20rd-fmj.html

The pic looks like a Polish crate, but the description implies it is Czech 20 rd boxes in 800 round crates. Good price too.

Better stock up!

That's a fall? The last case of Czech I bought was 100 bucks for 780 rounds.

Edit: Of course that was the green lacquered stuff, but the gunsmith I bought it from even dropped it off at the house. I still have some of it.

getting a great deal from a local gun store doesn't accurately reflect the going rate of ammo.
if he's got anymore, i'd get a few more cases.
was this deal recent or before the "gun scare"?

Way before, and I snatched his last one. Otherwise I would have a real pile of them in the house.

^ yeah, $150 for 2000 bullets was a good deal... I split with another MN shooter (1000 ea.) and I'm down to about 400 left.

Just a note on bullets...

All of my MN's (M38, M39, M44, 91/30) have really loved Sierra 174gr Match HPBT ($34 per 100). Expensive, (fully loaded round = $.50) but still cheaper than standard commercial ammo, and less than half the cost of equivalent high end commercial ammo.

Was $152 shipped! I went through two bags of 500 before I ordered this new pile. Came shipped in four bags of 500. I am probably only 1/3 way through the first bag.

Did run them through a tumbler first as some of them were kind of tarnished.

Built so good I have never needed NEW stuff!
