I came across this in my internet browsings. I've never done reloading or made my own powder, so just curious how this stacks up against reality?
I did find it odd that he got the one chemical from his chemistry teacher...lol. Thought they didn't want this stuff out of the classroom anymore..oh well.
He should have taken the next step in the process which is to wet the mixture and press form it into a cake and before it completely dries , you rub it over a screen onto a flat cookie sheet to form the size granules you want and then dry it completely...It burns faster and actually works better...

Moose do you make your own gun powder for your reloads, or do you buy pre-made powder?
I know this video is Black Powder, which burns faster, but just curious. I am thinking about trying reloading, and am just gathering some info before I get into it. So, thanks!

i was about to suggest the same thing with distilled water! I made this stuff when I was in middle school and it was a boatload of fun! All this tsuff can be easily found at the local drug store. Potasium Nitrate is called Saltpeter and sulfer is used for something else. for another recipe half potasium nitrate half sugar makes for great smokebomb
I would not put that mix in a muzzleloader even after it has been korned. (unless it was a post SHTF scenario and I had to). without any way to establish it's burn rate, doing so could be dangerous.
there was something I remember from many years ago and I can't remember which one it is. either Potassium Nitrate or Potassium Proclorate, if it gets wet a second time in the mix and dries, it becomes unstable. (dropping it could set it off). I think it was the Potassium Nitrate mix, but I'm not sure.

Somehow I made it through my childhood experiments and came through with all my fingers and toes. So I count myself lucky and try to steer clear of messing with things that go KA-BOOM !!
