I saw the original in high school. I was not impressed and have not seen it since. Apparently the idea behind the film was to pack as many machismo cliches into the movie as possible and then soak it in testosterone for a few months. The suggested survivability of a nuclear attack seemed unrealistically optimistic. I don't see any real reason to remake the film except that Hollywood has run out of ideas in its quest to seperate movie-goers from their money. Here's a suggestion. If they are going to rehash a 1980s movie, they should charge 1980s prices to see it.
As far as the suggestion that it might be a documentary, yeah, that's pretty paranoid. The same industrial and financial elites that own this country own China too, so what would be the point?

ok, does any one know the complete prolog that was shown in the beginning of the original Red Dawn??? it told of events leading up to the invasion. crop failures in Russia, and the Soviets threatened to nuke a city if the President did not surrender the country. my problem was that it was in white letters on a light background, very heard to see. |
-Soviet Union Suffers Worst Wheat Harvest in 55 Years
-Labor and Food Riots in Poland. Soviet Troops Invade.
-Cuba and Nicaragua Read Troop Strength Goals of 500,000. El Salvador and Honduras Fall.
-Greens Part Gains Control of West German Parliament. Demands Withdrawal of Nuclear Weapons From European Soil.
-Mexico Plunged Into Revolution.
-NATO Dissolves. United States Stands Alone.
Theres the Prologue for yah buddy. Circa 1984 WOWZORS!!!

hmmmm, i rented it when it first came out in the 80's and the prologue clearly mentioned that the Soviet Union threatened nuclear attacks and the weak president (Carter?) caved in surrendering, allowing Soviet and Cuban forces to come in with out military interference.
possibly someone must have complained and the prologue was modified later.

| yet again...
Its just another example of the fact that creativity in Hollywood died about 20 years ago. Virtually every movie that comes out now is either a remake, redux, or out right theft of a previous movie. The original red dawn was one of the few modern movies in which America wasn't the bad guys. I liked that. If they screw that up, I won't watch it. I think they should have kept with the Russian / Cuban theme though. I started my career during the cold war.... still hate those guys. lol
