Exploiting crimes to push an agenda

Michael Bloomberg's Mayors Against Illegal Guns -- a group boasting some 450 members including Seattle's lame duck Mayor Greg Nickels -- has petitioned President Barack Obama to adopt several alleged "reforms" MAIG is pushing that sound suspiciously like a federal crackdown on gun shows.

The thing to remember is there are a number of things any President, including this one, can do by executive order. the current occupant of the Oval Office knows that if he introduces an anti-gun bill in the current political climate, at the very least there will be a firestorm of protest by the People, although how much of that will make it into the news media is questionable given that the media bow at Obama's feet like good little slaves. He also knows the midterm elections are a year away and the Democrats are already on thin ice. He and they can't blame America's troubles on Dubya no more; they've been in control of Congress and the White House for too long now.

I think what will happen is Obama will read the petition and perhaps listen to the delegation if they send one, and then use the petition from MAIG to paper-train his puppy. MAIG is on the wrong side of history given the massive upsurge in gun ownership, concealed-carry permits, and increased civilian firearms training across the country, and there are enough suspicions about how Bloomberg got these yahoos to sign on already; plus which, there's at least one case I've read about where a pro-gun mayor found his name on the list, and of course there's lame-duck Nickels to point to concerning consequences of membership.

Keep an eye on these fascists by all means, but I don't at present see them as a serious threat. We'll have a better idea of their credibility after the midterm elections.
