686 rails

I want to attach a nice reflex red dot sight to my 686 .357 4". But to do that, I need to find a good top rail. Any suggestions?

Also, can you buy a rail for under the barrel? If not, how about a laser sight, or anything really, I'm just curious to know if you can put anything under the barrel.

I belive there are rails for the top, but the sights will will need to be removed. The only S&W's that have a rail Sc framed and I don't know of anyone who makes one for you model.

Check with B square they may have one. I use to have a leopold lazer that the mount was glued under the barrel maybe they have one for your gun but if it were me I would put Crimson lazer grips on the gun. you don't mess anything up and can be removed if you don't like and resold.

Aimtech 686 mount

Although, if you scroll to the bottom there is a very cool weaver mount for my 686 that retains the use of the iron sights. That's pretty cool. Only thing that bothers me is the space between the rail and the barrel...
Any of you guys have one of these, and do you think it will hold up against magnum rounds?

I have a "B-SQUARE #12402" for my 686 I paid $59.95 for in 1982. Had it on for a little bit with a red dot scope, but didn't like it. Sold the scope, but kept the mount.
I heard that B-Square was still in buisness, but not in Texas anymore. I'll look for a website.

Personally I don't trust any sights that require batteries, but thats just me.

I am a devotee of Mr. Murphy and his laws....

As for mounting such lights on a sixgun, I never could figure out why they stuck those horrid picatinny rails on the S&W N frames from the performance center.
It seems that the better way to put a laser on one of those guns would be to drill out the underbarrel lug and put a small laser like the ones they make to replace an autoloaders guide rod inside it. It would be a lot sleeker and it would not add any bulk to the gun.

Oh Wait!
Now I get it!
You wouldn't be able to tell the difference from just looking at it so the MALL NINJAS and CHAIRBORN RANGERS wouldn't be able to show off a 'custom' feature without pulling out the gun.

LOL...
It seems to me that a standard ventillated rib ala Pythons, Anacondas and some Taurus revolvers also makes more sense...but then again, you got that "Mine has to look different" factor to sell such crap.
