Just wondering what everybody thinks of the Tapco SKS mags. Are they reliable? I have used other mags that are just terrible. Are the members here that use them happy with them or do they have issues. I have read that some work well while others do not, ie. variants/fitting, I have also seen the vid where the big guy runs like ten Tapco mags through his rifle with no problems, did the guy get lucky or is that how they perform?
Thanks.
If you going to use a duckbill detachable the Tapco is your best bet as far a being reliable.
Also of note if you going to use the original stock some sanding may be needed in the mag well to allow for a proper fit so as not to squeeze the sides of the magazine and cause feed problems. It doesn't take much sanding and its not visible from the outside of the stock or will affect the fit or function of the original mag if you choose to put it back on at some point.
coyoteweap... I have ten Tapco mags for my SKS. My sks is a chinese factory /26\, i have the tapco stock on it as well, all my mags. fit good not loose or tight, they cycle rounds with out a hitch and when fireing they work great. And again this is my experience with the mags. now a friend of mine got a sks that had the wood stock on it and when we tried on of the tapco mags. it was extremly tight and very hard to remove, so he bought a tapco stock and walla the mags fit perfect... so i would say:
1. either by a tapco stock and mags so there will be no problems with mag/stock interaction, or...
2. if you have a wood stock and are willing to shave the inside of the mag well till the tapco mags fit right, you could do that...
this is my opinion, but good luck with this and let us know what ya choose!

Tried a 20 rounder in my Yugo. Misfeed after misfeed after misfeed. Sold it to somebody else and went back to the ten rounder. Probably was faster reloading the mag with stripper clips, anyway.

I have 7 Tapco 20 round mags for my Yugo. They work fine. Plus they were cheap. As you can see from the post above me. No two guns are the same, the same thing goes for mags. Some are good, some are bad. I had a 30rd Cobray. I liked it the best.

I have 20 round TAPCO mags on my 3 Tapco stocked SKS'. They all work, and are on a Russian, Yugo, and Norinco. I also have the 30 round steel mags (no name brand), and those were junk. They rattled a bit in all but the Norinco, and would misfeed as well. They were easier to reload than the TAPCO with stripper clips, but that was my experiance. I only have one SKS with an attached scope. The rest have red dots. I will probably dump the scope, as the case deflector being attached means you cannot reload with strippers. Strippers are easy to use and really make reloading with the factory mag fine for most.
Anyway, do not get anything larger than 20 round mags, as they make firing from the prone position difficult. Best of luck.
I have some Tapco mags that work in mine and my dad's Norincos. Also seem to have gotten lucky and have a few metal 30rds that work perfect. No idea how that one happened.
