.45/70 ammo

For what it's worth, I'm fresh back from a meat hunt with some friends and saw 4 cow elk taken with the Hornady LeverEvolution in .45/70 and the round performed great. All shots were through and through with massive damage in between.

check your brass on those and let me know if the case length is the same as a reg. 45/70 length case....
my son had some of those in .444 marlin and they were 3/16" shorter than normal brass

I;m shooting it in a Winchester 1886 ultralight and I love that little rifle. The buckhorn sights are good, but I'm thinking about a receiver sight. Any thoughts on that? The LeverEvolution cases are shorter than about any .45/70 case you can buy. I'll get the exact length and let you know.

A good peep really helps me out as compared to buckhorn sights.

I noticed the .357Mag cases are also smaller than other factory cases. I am wondering if it's due to the bullet seating depth.

I know my 86 shoots better with a reciever sight. Here is a pic of it while my 13 year old fires it, it's original made in 1886 & shoots pyrodex loads.
