So I was thinking about flash suppressors and such today and out of curiosity, I checking my CZ 82 barrel diameter. It's exactly 1/2" all the way down. That's perfect for 1/2"-28 threads! So then I thought about how it would look interesting to put something on the end of mine if only the barrel were longer. So, I just order a 9mm blank(turned out to be under $20 after shipping) and I figured I'd have a machinist turn it down to 1/2" since the blank is .720 over all and then have it cut down to 4 1/2" and then thread it. Am I crazy or is this going to work?
I believe you will need to get it chambered for the 9mm makorov case,it will then need to be fitted into the barrel mount,extractor groove cut,and the bullet head-space set. No your not crazy it could be done.....but how much are you willing to spend? This will cost more than the pistol,perhaps way more.

Fitting the extractor shouldn't be too bad because all that has to be done is cut a notch out the barrel the same size as the original. The feed ramp I think will be the hard part. Don't really know where to begin.. The 9x19 aka 9mm Parabellum uses a bullet of .355 diameter. The 9X18 aka 9mm Makarov uses a bullet diameter of .363 essentially 9.2mm. If you use the .355 bbl you will need a .380ACP chamber reamer and your pistol will no longer be a 9mm Mak but a .380ACP.
IMHO it is not worth the expense as you can readily buy a CZ-83 chambered in .380 in a well stocked store. I seriously doubt a flash supressor is needed on a CZ-82.... if you're getting flash look at different ammo

Didn't realize there was that much difference in diameter. However, would that difference be enough to make it dangerous? If so, maybe I will have to go for a .380. All I'd have to change is the barrel as the rest of the pistol will work perfectly with .380. As for the CZ83 suggestion, nothing I do to mine is going to cost $400. That's what people are charging for 83s there days. And I don't really need a flash suppressor. It's more of the 2nd kind of cool. I just like it.

There is no safe way of shooting a 9mm Makarov cartridge in a .355 barrel. Is your barrel blank chambered? You will need a chamber reamer, as well as headspace gauges. Do you have a barrel press? You will need one to remove the old barrel and you'll also need it to install the new barrel. You'll need to match the extractor cut and the feed ramp from the removed barrel to your new barrel.

I think I'll just use .380. That should work just fine. As for removing the barrel and putting the new one in, I'll get my brother to help with that. He's pretty good with that kind of stuff. Been doing it a lot longer than I have and has experience taking apart and putting together firearms. I don't think it'll be too awfully hard. The extractor cut will be easy. The feed ramp will be time consuming.
Well, if you're looking for something with a threaded barrel, Numrich has sold threaded Makarov barrels. You could buy a Makarov and install a threaded barrel, and screw something on to the end of that too if its legal where you live.

I'm not really looking to buy a new pistol like that. I got the barrel blank today. It looks like it's a part of a longer barrel. One end is a very well crowned muzzle and the other has been cut off pretty neat with some kind of power tool. It's more than long enough to suit my idea, so at some point I'll have a machinist/gunsmith shave it down, cut it to the right length, and cut a chamber in it. I think I'll have a .380 chamber cut so it'll fit it perfectly. I think a 9x19mm barrel is close enough for having fun with .380. I'm not looking for match accuracy. And to my knowledge the only restricted items in this state is a sound suppressor and that's legal with the permit, taxes, and stamp.
