Round Ball Sabots

Has anyone ever used these? I had never seen them before and stumbled across them by chance. They looked interesting, so I bought some.

I haven't gotten a chance to use them yet. Just curious if anyone has any experience with them.

I suppose it would do ok in a fast twist barrel but in a 1:48 or slower a patch is a lot cheaper.

What well they think of next? A plastic patch??? Cloth has always worked for me. I guess the plastic could give a better seal around the ball.

In Arkansas, you have to have at least a .53 diameter round ball if you choose to use a round ball; so I guess that'd mean a 55 cal muzzy. I'd say just stick with the sabot bullets or powerbelts for modern muzzleloaders and a cloth for the old smoke poles. Just my 2 cents

But since you bought some, let us know how you like 'em! Always open to some new ideas. Also, whatcha shooting 'em in?

A CVA Bobcat. Nothing fancy. I might try them in my Traditions in-line too. I've always used round balls and patches in the CVA and Powerbelts in the in-line.

But I saw these and thought they looked interesting. Just thought I'd give them a try. I'll let you all know how they do. I'm going to try to get out to my parents' house today before we leave for the Machine Gun Shoot or maybe sunday morning.
