Tomorrow, at least in Kentucky, minors age 15 and under get the first chance with their rifles in the woods. Anyone over 15 has to wait until November 14. It gives the kids a nice chance to get their deer before the waves upon waves of hunters get in the woods for the regular season.
This will be my last year for the youth hunt, and I plan on bringing home at least one. I've got burgers and steaks and sausage and jerky to make!
Anyone else plan on taking out a younger friend or family member this weekend, or on any other youth hunts?
All my relatives are either too old for the youth hunt or too young to be in the woods with a rifle. But Wisconsin does a youth hunt in October as well. One of my younger brother-in-laws got his first deer in a youth hunt. I think it's a great idea.

oklahoma's youth season is next weekend, they can kill a buck and a doe.....anyone under 18...this is the 1st year since my lil cuzin started huntin that i wont get to take him.......WISH HIM THE BEST OF LUCK "BAG'M AND TAG'M"
I'm planning on taking my wife's little 11 year old cousin hunting with me. He's got short stubby arms and even the youth rifle that I bought my wife is too large for him, so for this year, he's just gonna be a spectator. His mom may be buying him a Moss 500 20 gauge youth for Christmas, so hopefully he'll be able to hunt then.
My dad never hunted and my "instruction" was putting two load of bird shot shells through a single shot 20 gauge. So now that I have a chance to help a young 'un learn something, I'm all for it.
we don't have a youth deer season here, but a youth 12 yrs or older can hunt with an adult and must have a hunters saftey certificate. They can buy a licence good for birds and deer for 10 dollars, or hunt on the adults tags
Same here in Ontario, 'cept, the "apprentice" can not buy tags. They have to be with their "mentor" (me) & using my tags. Will be my 13 yr old son's first season behind the rifle. I got 1 buck & 3 Doe tags & my Wife has 1 buck or Doe tag. Hopefully, that will be lots of meat in the freezer. Hoping all "mentors" dreams become a realities for their "newbies".
