scout scope mount for jakestg

sorry about all the bad luck you have with your mount and all the conflicting advice you got.
i'll tell you what. i know the leapers will work. that's why i told you to get it. i use them myself so does my brother. if you order one and don't like it, i'll buy it off you and pay for your shipping as well.
if you want to take me up on the offer, let me know. i'll need you to install it like i tell you and not use any loc-tite on it.
here's the link again.
http://www.opticsplanet.net/leapers-...fs38-25h4.html
if anyone else is willing to make that deal and you like the mount they suggest better, then by all means go for it.

is that offer still good? I bought one and don't like it. The mount doesn't sit level in my rifle and there is very little room for my NC Star scope to rotate in order to level the scope with the rifle. It also puts the scope too high for any kind of a cheek weld with the rifle. If you're buying I'm selling. Got Paypal?

rofl....R5, not good idea, because people will find anything wrong with it. I'll reload my thread, wherever it hid itself at. And since it was originally my idea for these, i'll send him the refund for it. generoll, you needa just get a G&H side mount system if you want perfection in every aspect. I've bought the side rail and used it to mount a scope like the M1C garands. Worked very well, I suggest you look into it. The Griffin & Howe Sidemount For Sporting Rifles: Griffin & Howe it's the 2nd pic with parts below it.

the side mount won't work for me since I shoot left handed. A thinner scope body might work with this mount, but I unintentionally bought an illuminated NCStar scope which is horse shoe shapped and flat on the bottom. It takes up nearly all the space on the bottom of the mount so it can't be rotated enough to level it with the rifle. There's just about enough space to put in a dime. I tried shimming with a couple of pieces of tape, but it'll take several pieces to get the scope high enough to allow it to rotate to the point where it's level. I toyed with the idea of grinding the lip down on the clamp side of the mount to see if I could level the mount, but it would still be too high for me.

I can probably get a refund from the seller. I just thought I'd see how serious the initial poster was.

well, we'll get your refund covered, no worries there....but i'm trying to picture exactly what problem you're having. I have that same scope and i'm looking at it trying to figure out what part is not doing right on your's.

the bottom of the middle part of the scope is flat. it fits so closely to the mount that you can't rotate it far enough to make it level with the rifle. The mount doesn't sit level on the rifle, which wouldn't matter if the center of the scope tube were round, but my scope is flat on the bottom of the tube and somewhat lower then the rest of the tube so there isn't sufficient clearance to allow it to rotate enough to bring it level with the rifle.

ohhh, you mean the center "block" area where the adjustments are housed? i see now, yeah, it does sit close, but i wonder if maybe either the mount isn't perfectly centered on the dovetail or if the dovetail is that far off? could you post some pics of the problem area and maybe one from the rear showing how far off the "center" of the crosshairs is? putting it in a gun-vise, gun rest, or stable shooting stand, with the rifle being held perfectly verticle, then setting camera to the "flower power" mode(may or may not be required), then holding camera right above the rear of stock to give a good representation of the crosshairs not running perfectly vertical and horizontal.....that would be much appreciated. This isn't required for return, just for us to see what's going on with that mount and if we install on our's and it's centered, it could mean your dovetail is offcentered....which could mean your barrel isn't perfectly straight(centerline could be off because of either overtightened or undertightened barrel). Thanks.

generoll, mine is canted as well. i never even noticed till you mentioned it. it's a few degrees clockwise as you look at it. doesn't effect shooting it at all. i guess i've always just tilted the rifle a tiny bit to the left to level up the cross hairs without even noticing it.
have you shot the rifle with the mount yet? how about with the mounts that come with the nc star scope?
are you planning on selling the scope too? i noticed you said it sat too high for a good cheek weld. since you really can't get it much lower. mine has less than 1/4" of clearance

mine is offset to the rear to bring the scope closer so it's canted CCW. I didn't try it at the range, but just gave up after I couldn't level it and put the former rings on. I have about 1/2-3/4 inch clearance between the scope bell and the breach and would like to find a lower mount. Dunno if I can get one or not.

I was looking and lace on cheek pieces the other day and am tempted to try one since they have them available in left hand models. Using the scout scope configuration I find that I have to hunt a bit to get my eye directly in line with the scope. I also have a 2.5 scope and didn't notice the problem with this, but when I* got the 2-7 power and used it at higher power I discovered that I didn't always have my eye directly in line with the scope. If I can find a decent cheek piece and a slightly lower mount I might be able to get it set up so that it's quicker to get a proper sight picture. So far I just shoot off the bench, but I'd like to get the rifle configured so I could shoot it offhand without humiliating myself.

please, go shoot it. i think you'll find that you'll not only, not embarass yourself, that you'll embarass alot of the guys with the "plastic" weapons that shoot next to you.

have you ever shot a rifle with a pistol scope before?
took me a few boxes of ammo to get a repeatable sight picture. even with a good cheek weld it's tough. take that sucker to the range and try it out.
please don't give up without even trying it.
i'm going to the range friday night and i'll post some pics of the targets my canted rail, cheapo mount, cheapo pistol scope, cheapo mosin, shoots.
even with the scope, the mosin still shoots better than i can!

I'm using a two piece .22cal/rimfire mount with my NCStar and Mosin right now. I'd tried the offset mount because I wanted to move the scope back farther.

Just FWIW, I get a better pattern with my M39 and the mil sights then I get with my 91/30 and the 2-7 scope. This is of course shooting from a rest. I'll swap the mounts around again and see how it turns out. Part of the issue for me has been that when I am trying to sight in my rifle I use a large sight in target which has a prominent X or rather cross on the target. I've been trying to align the crosshairs on the scope with the lines on the target as well as centering the sight on the middle. with a canted scope that just seems weird.

I think my setup has like .001" clearance in the rear and about .060" clearance in the front. Talk about a bugger to setup.

OK, this mount is for sale. I waited too long and Opticsworld won't take it back. I'll ship this off to anyone that wants to purchase it via paypal. It's back in it's packaging and I'll enclose the receipt and ship it in it's original shipping container.

generoll....my paypal is bugged out again, having to get another credit card validation sent thru, then i'll send you your money and you can just ship the mount to R5. Merry Christmas to the both of you. This shouldn't take too terribly long to get straightened out. R5, when you get the mount, use it as a chopping block and do some hand-milling to the mount to make it clear, then take close-up pics of different angles of the mill job and send to me. I think I'll just stockup on these mounts and "fix-mill" them then resell at cost. It's a good indoor hobby for cold weather, much easier than building a hotrod in a heater-less garage. My '37 Diamond-T is never gonna get finished.
