Looking for a reflex sight

I have a weaver mount on the way for my S&W 686 .357, and the mount will replace the iron sights. So next I need a good mounted sight. I have thought about getting a scope but decided against it as I am a green shooter and need something a little more simple. So a reflex sight would be perfect I think.

The problem is that there are a thousand of them ranging from $40-$800 and they all have mixed reviews! Can anyone with hands on experience recommend a good sight? I'd prefer something not in tube form, like this one for example...

My only problem I've noticed with sights like these is that it can be hard to see the reticle or dot in daylight. They're great if you're indoors or it's a little darker out, but during the day with a lot of light it's really hard to see the dot/reticle. I'm speaking from the experience of the red dot sight I put on my air pistol.

Don't go for anything less than $100. They just aren't reliable under recoil. You might look into a Burris if you want something less than $150. If you're willing to pay through the butt, buy an EOtech. They're kinda big and ugly, but they WILL work.

Those work just fine. I have one on a .17 revolver. But instead, might I suggest this.

Tactical Red Dot holographic sight for Weaver rail by NcStar DDAB

Smaller and lighter. And they do test them on things that have a bit of kick. And I also know a few that have both shown. Not any problems been mentioned. Sure, there's the occasional bad one. But generally that get's found out right quick and while the warranty is still good. lol

Go with the other if you want multiple reticles.

On a personal note, I really don't think the EoTech's look good on a revolver. But that's just me...

If opened lense sights don't work well in the light, and I don't want to go with a full blown scope, how about a short tube sight with no magnification? Like this one for a quick example...

Holo sights work fine in bright light if you have a quality one. You well have adjustable dot intensity, turn up as bright as you need.

Midway had this holo on sale last Christmas for $100, I bought two. Stands up to 44mag recoil and rough handling on an AR. You get what you pay for, the cheaper sights eat batteries, can have a fuzzy reticle and not be bright enough for full sun.

I have a burris fastfire and several eotechs. They both work great. The eotech is very nice and is used as a primary on my ar and my calico. The burris is used as a secondary site on my m1a it is mounted ontop of the scope.

I think I finally found a good one...
Vortex - Vortex StrikeFire Red Dot Scope for AR15

I read it works fine on a handgun if you use the lower mounting ring.

Looks reasonably priced, but I don't know if it could handle the .460 S&W I have.

Because I couldn't afford an Eotech, I bought the multiple reticle model that GM referred to. I put it on an AK about a year ago and it's still running. I can see the reticle easily day or night, to include bright sunny days.
