cub scout sent to reform school for camping knife

What is our nation coming to? A six year old kid punished for bringing his scout knife to school?

He looked like a real hardened criminal, didn't he?

Have we discarded common sense if favor of political correctness?

Drives me bonkers seeing stories like this pop up.

When are Americans going to get tired of our children being abused by the No Tolerance policies set by School Administrators. Take back our school boards and tell school administrators that a No Tolerance policy will not be tolerated and that each case will be tried on its own merits. Our school children deserve a fair hearing with common sense rulings.

How come the libs are always pushing "common sense" gun laws but they allow stuff like this to proliferate? Where is the "common sense" in this (and many, many other's) story?

Not only no

But HELL NO.

His parents need to reinforce the fact to their child he has done NOTHING wrong, is in the right, and in NO WAY should be punished for his actions. He should be applauded for his pride and demeanor as a good citizen.

They need to NOT allow him to go to ANY form of "reform" school -- even if that means pulling him out of this obviously stupid school districts' reach.

Administrators who do stuff like this should NOT be in charge of anything more serious than the dog food section of a supermarket (and even then should be heavily supervised). They need NOT be supervising, directing, or "educating" our kids.

I agree that this attitude of zero tolerance has gone too far in this and other cases. There needs to be a provision for a case by case evaluation, rather than blanket rules. That having been said, I am not familiar with this states rules, but, I wonder if it is legal to take your child out of school and home school them? Would the child then be ruled truant and then the parents have to fight the child welfare system? Just a thought.

There are proceders that the parent(s) follow to withdraw their
children from the school system for home schooling. The school boards
will provide lesson plans to help the parent(s) so that the child
will not fall behind in learning. when test time comes the child
will be given the same school test that other students take. And
in some cases the home schooled students score higher.

This is why "zero-tolerance" rules are not effective! They do more damage because there is no accounting for degree of infraction.

I have been carrying pocket knives since the ripe age of 6 years old. Never did i have anyone raise a ruckus about it, and in fact my auto shop teacher in high school asked to borrow it to cut some cord. No one back in the 50's and 60's would get hyper over some little thing like that. Some schools in our district even had a shooting class whereas the student brings a UNLOADED firearm to school and stores it in the office and at the shooting class time, retrives it and goes to the range. WOW, try that one nowadays. Weapons of mass destruction, Terrorists, Gun Nuts, etc. is what we wiould hear now, thanks to the anti-gun nuts. Lawsuits would abound and who knows how many teachers, and school administrators would suddenly be unemployed and possibly incarcerated in jail?
