So I walked into a gun shop....

And I seen a 98K for 375$ and I picked it up to look at it, this store doesn't let you work the bolt to look at the rifle, the rear site flopped down like a wet noodle. Now I may be new to guns in general but I'm pretty mechainically inclined and blessed with some common sense so I put it back on the shelf.

I would like to buy a 98k to add to my mosins and break thier hold on me (lol) but I can't seem to find a good resource for markings on the gun, prices (other then the price from 50 years ago, 50$ if your curious). I have seen sites selling them but I've heard some sites are pretty bad.

I'm no gun expert but I would not buy a gun from a store that will not let you at least open the bolt so you can examine the bore or condition of the bolt. Mabye there is some law I do not know about but it would just make me suspicious. Mauser 98K's are so hard to value. I have a Russian captured 98K that has been refinished that I love. Some collectors only want G.I. bring backs that have not been refinsihed or import marked in beat up battlefield condition. If you are like me and just want a 98K to take to the range and shoot a R/C rifle is fine and you should be able to find one in good contition between $300 and $400 dollars.
