Both the Marlin & Ruger have lousy triggers...but of the two, the Marlin is FAR more accurate/precise. The Marlin is even less expensive to Upgrade, if you later wish to have a Heavy Target Barrel...they only cost around $90 at Numrich.
Ruger has TONS of aftermarket triggers you can buy. They need 'em.
Marlin triggers can be resolved in about an hour with two tool items...a Drill & Tap set & a 6/32" setscrew.
Drill a proper sized hole (USE a DRILL PRESS) for a 6/32 tap, run the tap thru, put the screw in, and once it all fits properly...take varying grits of sandpaper up to 1000-grit and smooth the end of the screw so that it engauges as smooth as Butter.
Here's another view...clearer pic
Or if you want to do it on the cheap...A little JB Weld can substitute...but the setscrew is MUCH easier to deal with AND totally adjustable
After you've honed the trigger & set it properly, go give some CZ owners a run for their money
See my 60/795 Aftermarket Items post in the Marlin section for upgrade items...there are more than most folks know about
Marlin 60/795 Accessories
Also, when you first get your Marlin, give it a Total Action Cleaning...including those slots on each side of the barrel that almost no one ever cleans...ALL the grease must be removed from the action and it must be properly oiled OR IT WILL FTE! (jam). See my post in the Marlin section about 60/795 FTE's.
