California: Schwarzenegger signs ammo regulation bill
People buying ammunition in California will soon have to be thumbprinted and dealers will have to keep records of sales, under legislation that Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed into law.
A very minor example of the new anti-gun approach. The Brady Bunch and their fellow-travelers got their heads handed to them in a basket by DC vs. Heller, and if they have enough brains to pour sand out of a boot with the instruction printed on the heel they have to know that they're going to lose McDonald vs. Chicago too. At least for now, there is no way the Supreme Court is going to rule against the Second Amendment. And they know that once McDonald comes down against them, the pro-gun organizations are going after the big city laws like the Sullivan Law like a pack of wolves after a crippled moose and will take them down too.
So what they are doing is pinning their efforts on the "reasonable regulation" bear trap that Alan Gura stepped into when he argued Heller last year. They know they can't get an outright gun ban; neither the courts nor the People will stand for it, gun sales being what they are and even little old Jewish ladies who survived the Holocaust going to the range to learn how to shoot. So what they will do is try to get a whole lot of "reasonable regulations" passed, that shooters must comply with before they can practice their sport or their right to self-defense.
They're going to try to raise the height of the bars we have to clear and increase the number of hoops we have to jump through to get permits, guns and ammunition. They want to make it more difficult for us to go shooting.
This California bushwah about storing ammo out of reach of customers and gun stores taking their fingerprints when they sell someone ammo is just the first step. Next, it's going to be you have to show a permit like the Illinois FOID card before you can buy ammo. Then, a permit endorsed for the caliber you want to buy, which endorsement can only be obtained at the county courthouse during normal working hours. Then maybe a Federal FOID if you want to buy ammo out of state. Then perhaps a law aimed at restricting quantities purchased. Then a national law like that POS that the evil Jon Corzine just passed in New Jersey restricting firearms purchases to one a month and requiring a permit to buy first. I'm sure you see where I'm going with this.
What the anti-gunners will do now is restrict by regulations until the honest people give up on firearms in disgust with government horsecrap that makes owning a gun impractical. The technique isn't original with them. It's the same tactic the pro-lifers used to nullify Roe vs Wade in practice. In theory and according to the law, a woman who wants one can get an abortion. In practice, most women would have to go to a big city like Los Angeles, New York or even out of the country to get it performed. The anti-abortion crowd has shut down abortion providers in something on the order of 93% of the counties in the United States.
That's the way the anti-gunners will go once the outright ban door has been slammed in their faces and locked tight, assuming McDonald vs Chicago goes our way. They will try to "reasonably" regulate our Second Amendment rights out of existence - for our own good, of course. Schwartzenegger's signing AB962 is the thin edge of that wedge.
Anti-gunners are like cockroaches. No matter how much insecticide you use, no matter how carefully you seal the cracks in the wall, no matter how carefully you clean up, you can never get them all. Constant vigilance is required just to keep their numbers down and keep them outside the house. Now that they have seen they can get such legislation in a so-called 'bellwether state,' you can bet your boots they'll try it in other states too. Keep your eyes and ears open, your powder dry, and your letters to the elected officials coming, boys!
I'm glad I reload, and I went out and found more primers, ammo, and three cases of shotgun shells.
I'm getting ahead of the learning curve, now I'm stocking up on 12 GA. The three older men in front of me bought 700.00 worth of .270, 7mm, and .243 shells today. [The expensive Hornady stuff]. I've got five cases of #6,4,00,000, and Sluggers so far and one case of 71/2 for practice. Got some Sellier and Bellot 2 3/4 00 that is Transparent, you can see the pellets in it. You just toss one around the corner and let them pick it up and look at it, they drop it and run off. LOL

Below is my latest response another poster in the Los Angeles Times article who mentioned police involvement in the passage of this ill-advised law.
Quote:
No doubt there were some politically motivated individuals in the hierarchy of law enforcement involved. It was fashionable for New York politicians to have some "politician" police chief and a formation of unwilling and/or unwitting recent recruits from the police academy complete with white gloves and dress blues on hand during the signing of these sham laws. Bill Clinton was a master of that tactic too. The truth is that experienced front line law enforcement officers would never be in agreement with such a law. Rank and file law enforcement needs to team up with constitutionally minded citizens as they did in my state and get rid of this bad law and the bad politicians that made it. Start by getting active and getting heard; not just here, but politically and at the grass roots. Gangs, illegals, and crooked leftist politicians just slammed the honest and law abiding people of California. Let this be your wakeup call …
