Thanks for info I think we will be making a trip up within a year to check out the area and to get a sense of the job market and economy for what I do.

I stopped in Anchorage on my way to SE Asia. It was all pretty and white. Couldnt tell much about details as snow looked to be about 10 ft deep from the altitude we were flying at. But it was pretty.
Runways and ramp were cleared so I guess its livable. GO for it!!!

Go for it...I've always felt Alaska has some of the most beautiful country there is, in the and as part of and as far as the U.S. goes that is; and that it still has some of the most beautiful and untouched and virgin wilderness, for obvious reasons, left that there is and if it were not for the cold, I myself would love to live there.

The cold plays hell with my body. I can't even stand the cold here in Illinois. Since the weather here started changing, I have been in constant pain and stiff as rusty door hinge.

But if you have been thinking of it, and you can afford the move and if it's been on your mind and has never left, go for it...

At least maybe take a vacation there for 2 or 3 weeks, and maybe also during what is suppose to be the coldest time of year there, and see if you still like it?

At the very least, you could visit SwedeSteve and Mooseman684...

I am sure you could find a job no problem. But you might have to take bush work. Does your wife work ?? How many years experience do you have ?? You can PM me if you wish.

I hope so I want to get out of the navy but it's a little scary with a wife and kid. I could have had a job at the VA Beach sheriff's dept but I didint wat to stay in that area and rais our child in a shithole.

Southeast Alaska is a little warmer but a little wetter than most of the state.
I love it. I moved here 15 years ago and never looked back.
a tourist helo tour shop mech might also be an option for you.

Cool videos, thanks for sharing. Good guitar picking too. SE Alaska is more my style but I would have to do Anchorage so the wife can be near stuff.

hey thanks

we are going stomping around the benches above Tee Harbor in the morning.
Should be a lot of fun. I have only been up one time this year but one of my buddys was up there last weekend and he said he jumped good size black bear up there. He couldnt get a clear shot but he says lots of sign everywhere.

In my experience the folks who do well in cold weather climes are the folks who embrace the weather, and look forward to the winter activities. I know people in Vermont and Maine that try to fort up and wait 'til Spring and that ain't a good way to go. Most of'em head south at the first chance.
