Homemade .22lr Chamber Insert... video included

the chamber insert thread got me thinking. so i popped out the primer of an old 7.62x54r round. beveled the edges so the rim of the .22 round would sit in flush and it fits dam near perfect. havent fired it yet. as im not sure yet. it seems as it would work.. is it a bad idea guys? took me a 25minutes to make with caveman tools. if you got a press or a drill and tap and die set it would take 3-5minutes to make.... heres a vid of it might fire it later... not sure tho

There is no way that a .22 bullet is going to seal the barrel. In effect, you might as well hold a .22 case in a crescent wrench and bang on the end with a hammer for all the accuracy this would give you. There will be no rifling spin, and possible damage to you barrel from the slug careening from side to side. Most chamber inserts at least fire a same caliber slug, or use a sabot.

Not sure how well this would work as the .22 bullet would basically bounce around down the barrel...

but, by-gawd, CSI wouldn't have the ballistic results back in 4 minutes, delivered by a well-endowed pistol-packin' investigator.

of course it is not a good idea. you KNEW that.

I can't see the video but will the striker hit the primer?

Definitely not a good idea though, as I've mentioned before, those adapters that are designed to shoot .22lr in another rifle actually have a section of .22 rifled barrel to stabilise the bullet a little bit and they also have a centrefire/rimfire conversion piece to strike the rimfire primer.

Yeah, didn't even think of that. A rimfire is designed to fire when hit on the 'rim'.

"the chamber insert thread got me thinking..."

All I can tell you buddy is that your idea will get you really un-bored when you pull the trigger with that your made adapter in your rifle. Your thinking is sure very special.

Wrench and hammer Yes it would be about the same results. With no chamber to surround the cartridge the case will explode and could lodge the bullet in the barrel sideways,or other bad stuff. I've seen adapters to shoot 22cal bullets in shotguns, there about 3 inches long and give the bullet a little bit of barrel to get it going straight.
Driftingrz, We're glad you did'nt try this,it could have been a bad day.Nothing wrong with trying to be creative and come up with something new but ya gotta be careful when it comes to firearms.
