FINALLY! Got my long awaited Nagant revolver. It is a 1932 Tula with an arsenal refurb stamp on it. RGUNS import. Wood grip panels are in good shape (if anyone knows how to remove them, I'd be happy to know). It cleaned up great. I was a bit concerned about the bore, as I didn't see any lands or grooves upon initial inspection. Fortunately it was just some cosmolene in there covering them up. The first patch I pushed through there was full of it. Bore looks great, nice sharp lands and grooves. Bluing on the gun is 100% (probably factory reblue anyways). Izhevsk stamp on the hammer, and Tula hammer stamp on the trigger. I bought it from J&G, and got 2 boxes of Hotshot 7.62 Nagant. Came with holster, cleaning rod lanyard and tool. Very pleased, beautiful pistol. I have been wanting to get one of these babies for a while, and finally it has happened. Here are some pics.

Tell me that the top picture is merely an optical illusion or some kind of camera artifact and it really is not rust, which is what it looks like. Because I see no such signs from the other pics. Looks good, otherwise. Mine is a 37 Tula.

No worries! It was caked in cosmo. That is the "in the cosmolene" right out of the box pic. I suppose I could add a caption Hoping to shoot it tomorrow. Might have time to post a range report. Off to eastern WA for opening weekend modern rifle deer tomorrow afternoon.

I might think about getting one if I didn't have to pay the shipping and the transfer fee, because the Peoples Democratic Republic of New York does not allow C&R pistols to be shipped to your address of record on the C&R license. But that would nearly double the base price of the Nagant, plus of course the kukai moa to get it added to my pistol permit. Plus which, I'd have to get a .32 ACP cylinder so as to have affordable ammo to shoot out of it. That makes it not worth while to me.
Of course, if the local gun shop ever has one with a reality-based price, that's another story.
It is unfortunate that you must contend with those circumstances. Hopefully one will turn up that isn't too bad. I don't think I'd make a daily shooter out of it, but on occasion, sure. The ammo is a bit pricey, but if you bought a couple boxes, then you'd be set for a while. Not many options for ammo. I don't know how this stuff will even shoot either.

Nice revolver - too bad about the billboard ad though. Collectors really HATE that nonsense. Nice thing about the pre-WWII guns is they put more effort into a good finish. Mine is a '39 Tula. Very good wood grips, still 'fresh' as to the checkering. Many are heavily worn from years of use.
Ammo? Simple. The 7.62X38R is a reloader's dream. Easy to form, from .32-20 WIN. Light powder charge keeps pressures down and costs very cheap. Brass lasts forever! You can even cast your own bullets (my buddy does this). I ordered a 500-piece box of bullets, 200 cases. It'll keep me shooting for quite awhile. Doesnt' do the 'gas seal', but that is not a big deal. Our Colts, Rugers and SWs don't either.

Great info on the .32-30 cases. I don't know as I'd shoot it enough to warrant getting the equipment for it. I wonder if the Hotshot cases are reloadable?

You need to take side plate off, and clean inside. You will then be able to remove grips also, screw heads are on inside, so to reach them, you must remove side plate anyway. You can aslo polish sear and all moving parts, which improves the trigger pull. Nagant revolver is more accurate with original ammo, gas seal is not only to reduce loss of gas, but helps with correct cylinder indexing - when cartridge engages the cone, it acts like a second lock/indexer in a very natural way. Primary indexer is pretty sloppy, so use of "gas seal" cartridge is kind of beneficial to get the most accuracy out of this revolver.
I do want to remove the plate. After additional research, I was able to find a pretty good step by step to do so. Thanks for the additional information, much appreciated

They are, but the only dies I have seen for them are expensive RCBS dies. I have heard of people reloading them with .30 Carbine dies, but you would need to get the correct shellholder. The Lee conversion die set for 32/20 would probably work, but Lee does not make a shellholder for 7.62 Nagant, and the 32/20 one does not fit.
By the way, it is 32/20, not 32/30.
