I see Centerfire Systems has barreled Mauser receivers for $29.99. But a couple of caveats, it says they were in a fire, and may or may not have bolts. Also sold "as is", no returns.

An interesting but potentially dangerous experiment in heat treating steel. They might make good (but expensive) tomato stakes or re-bar; that's about all I'd be willing to do with them. Probably safer without the bolt.

I think I would pass and spend the $30.00 buck on lottery tickets. If you win you can afford to buy a real nice Mauser. If thoses barrels were in a very hot fire they are unsafe. The fire would have hardened the steel to the the point of it being brittle. Same reason why tanks that were knock out and burned were scraped the reheating of the steel destroys it. I can't believe they would even try to sell something that could potentially be that dangerious. Stupid in my opinion.

Definetely. Reheating any type of hardened steel will always make it even hard i.e. very brittle. Not what I would be looking for in a gun barrel. Especially a 7.92 Mauser barrel that you can buy 196 grain rounds for! I would hate to see someone get hurt if one of these barrels fails. The type of injury could be devastating. Put all of this disclaimers you want on it your leaving yourself open for a serious lawsuit selling one of these as anythig other than to be use as a wall decoration.

I will not take the safety risk of a rifle perhaps turning into a hand grenade one inch from my face.

The cost of a real metallurgical inspection would more than kill the attractiveness of the price.

Gannie, don't even think about it! Fire, water, heat, barreled action so you don't know whether the stock was burned or not. Don't just walk away...RUN!

Glad to see everone here is intelligent enough to see a serious safety risk here like I do. Mabye someone in Hollywood could use them. Plug the barrels throw some stocks on them and use them as movie props. Thats the only use I couls possible see for these barrels.
