I don't live in Illinois, can I fire my gun here?

I live in Indiana, one state over, and would like to go visit my dad in Illinois and go to a shooting range with him.

Can I do this?
Do I need to do, call, or apply for something?

According to http://www.isp.state.il.us/foid/firearmsfaq.cfm

If a non-resident is coming to Illinois to hunt and would like to bring their firearm, how do they legally transport it?
Non- residents must be legally eligible to possess or acquire firearms and ammunition in their state of residence. It is recommended that, in order to be in compliance with all statutes, non-residents transport all firearms:

1. Unloaded, and
2. Enclosed in a case, and
3. Not immediately accessible or broken down in a nonfunctioning state.
However, rules and laws seem to vary from person to person, so I'd like to see what you all have to say.

Yes, out of state folks do not have it as bad as we subjects, LOL

The world shooting complex in Sparta IL might be a good place to call to check for verification. They work with out of state people a lot. I know alot of people from MO come over to shoot there.

At my range in Wisconsin, they have never asked for any ID. I travel from home here
in IL to WI frequently to the range. It is required for IL residents to have a FOID to posses, transport, buy any firearm or ammo. There are some ranges in urban areas where I live that require any shooter to have a FOID.
Check with the range you will be going to.
Also check Indiana and Illinois laws for transport
Good Luck

You should be able to use your Indiana drivers license as ID, if anybody asks. I go to Missouri to shoot matches sometimes and nobody asks. Same for out of staters at the matches at PASA Park in Illinois.
