Cornville, Maine

I am new to the site and new to guns - nothing to teach and everything to learn. I have always had an interest yet also a fear.
I googled for shooting ranges and found this site.
I hope to find a place to learn to shoot in the Skowhegan Maine area!
Thanks in advance for any help!

Terry

Great

Just don't make the mistake of getting a very high power rifle in the beginning.

You need mild recoil and mild muzzle blast. It is about developing skills
in steady holding, sight picture, trigger squeeze, and so on at this point.

Actually, a good .22 lr would be a good starting point. Otherwise, a .223 is a step up in power, range, and ammo price but will be gentle on the shoulder and kind to the ear (but do wear hearing protection with any gun).

Best wishes and good luck.

Welcome aboard,

A Father's Advice

If a sportsman true you’d be
Listen carefully to me. . .
Never, never let your gun
Pointed be at anyone.
That it may unloaded be
Matters not the least to me.
When a hedge or fence you cross
Though of time it cause a loss
From your gun the cartridge take
For the greater safety’s sake.
If twixt you and neighbouring gun
Bird shall fly or beast may run
Let this maxim ere be thine
“Follow not across the line.”
Stops and beaters oft unseen
Lurk behind some leafy screen.
Calm and steady always be
“Never shoot where you can’t see.”
You may kill or you may miss
But at all times think this:
“All the pheasants ever bred
Won’t repay for one man dead.”

Welcome to the site! Hope your ranges aren't already snowed in! Have a friend that lives near Bang-uh, Maine, And I always thought it was Bangor :-)

Wunhunglo, thanks for a stroll down memory lane. The last two lines of that poem have been running in my head since I first read it in Sports Afield when I was a kid, about 1967, I think.
