Home made cleaning rods.

I'm sure many have either done this or thought of this.
When I finally made it to bed this morning due to a drive by shooting.
Somebody shot my wifes Durango around 1 a.m. this morning and it took the cop an hour and a half to come out and do a report.

But thats a different story.

Before I fell to sleep I thought I'd try my hand at makeing some cleaning rods out of the long unfluxed welding rods.
I'd even cut threads on them for some left over handles I have and the different attachments.

Then another thought ocurred to me and it was to take some heat shrink tubeing and cover the rod with it for added protection.

Fact of the bizzness is you could take your 3 piece cleaning rods and Loc-tite them together and cover them with heat shrink thus makeing a better cleaning rod.

What's yall think about that ???...A.H

As long as they were not too large to go down the bore that seems like a good idea!

About the only thing I use a cleaning rod for these days is to clear the chamber or a stuck case. Bore snakes have invaded my cleaning box and multiplied!

Seems like a bore snake would continue to rub in the front chamber area of non-bolt action rifles. Do they ?

I haven't had any rub issues with mine AH. I use bore snakes at the range, and a one-piece rod when I get home.
P.S.- I do like the shrink tube idea !!
