Just got the rest of my parts in from Kvar, plum stock, arsenal fcg, and an east german gas tube. Just waiting to get my rifle back from the gunsmith.

After reading that first line I thought maybe he was circumcising it, lol.

It sucks that you have to weld the brake on. I thought the bullet guide was riveted or do I need to stop taking other people's medications?

It is either riveted or screwed in, I like to have it welded on for piece of mind.

Nice, I am sitting on a 5.45 saiga as well. And you are right about it being front heavy. But I think once the new stock and PG is on it should even out a little better.
One thing that I am un-decided on is that I want both a replica ak-74 look and my own intrepretation of what an AK can look like which is no where close to the original.
So I just don't know which one I want first. Perhaps I should go buy a second one and then just do both of them at the same time.

Alright, it is finished (well minus the BHO which I am considering not putting back on). I had some trouble and a bit of disagreement with the E. German gas tube I bought for this. THe gas tube was too long and the rear didn't clear the lock-down. I had to convince it a little with the Dremel and a little muscle.

Also, as expected, the disconnector was blocking the reinstall of the safety lever. That just required some solid forcing for it to finally budge into place.

Well, let me know what you think!

(Ak-74 is recommended on page 177 when arguing with idiots )

(Close-up of the Kreb's muzzle brake, they are exact copies of the Russian 2-piece half-moon design)

What's in the build;
Saiga 5.45x39
Russian Izmash magazine
Kreb's Customs Russian Muzzle Brake and collar
KVAR Plum firniture
Arsenal Inc. FCG
Dinzag pistol grip kit, bullet guide and hand guard retainer
6x POSP-D

Cost? who cares

Thanks! I am pretty excited to take it to the range this weekend

I will be pretty bummed if this thing sucks... But from what it shot before I am expecting some performance boost from just being a more comfortable configuration plus the scop should help.

Got out to the range today and think I have a shooter on my hands. The Kreb's brake took out most of the miniscule recoil on this and it just jumps a little, holding it really tight it doesn't move at all. I need a little more time behind the trigger on this but I zeroed the POSP at 50m fairly quickly and it is more or less on target at 50-100 and 200m with a half-click on the right. I didn't really get a good measure of grouping as the range was busy and I was putting several rounds down range before getting to get a look at my target but from what I saw I was jerking it a bit getting 2-3 near touching and a couple of where did that come from's. So we will see if I can improve on my trigger pull, as I am sure that is what the problem was. But in the end I loaded up 100 rounds and pulled the trigger 100 times with zero malfunctions.

Heh, found out why I was getting fliers tonight. Was cleaning and when I went to take the scope off it rattled a little, I must not have had it tightened all the way down. I am going tomorrow again after a quick doc's visit. We'll see what the groups are.

You bet!
I got a few mosins. They serve their purpouse. And I find cosmoline to smell kind of nice. I hate to clean any gun with cosmoline because I just love to smell it lol. Makes the gun smell so much well more like a gun.
