The front sight on my Garand has a slight side to side movement.
Actually it's the gas cylinder that's not tight on the barrel which allows the front sight to roll sideways, slightly.
I'm thinking about peening the spline on the barrel slightly or possibly peening the groove in the cylinder where it slides over the barrel.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Cat
Ok, so your saying that the entire gas cylinder is moving? I know this sounds stupid but is the + under the barrel tightened all the way? If thats loose then it can cause the cylinder to move.
My guess would be to peen, I know this sometimes happens to Garands... there were pictures with directions on where to peen somewhere on this site... Hopefully someone has them.
Why not first and just take a set of calipers and measure the external diameter of the gas pad and then measure the inside dimension of the gas cylinder ring that sits over it and see what the numbers are?
If there too far off you'd do and be better off just replacing it then?
