Fully machined lowers

Are they of the same quality as a forged one?
Centerfire Systems has them on sale... AR Machined Lower Part #ARLOWER-MACH

THANKS!!
I was wondering if it'd be as hard being machined, as one that's been work hardened by forging?? I know aluminum does funky things with heat and I've never compared machined/forged aluminum side by side.

CNC Machined receivers are typically considered MORE desirable, and higher quality. Not sure why... They're usually just referred to as 'Billet' receivers.

That's awfully cheap though, for a billet receiver... and next to no information is provided... hmm...

Were it anyone else, I'd wonder. Centerfire is known for not having the best descriptions. I've made several purchases with them over the years and have been nothing but completely happy with each and every one.

If I decided to go with one, I'll let pass on the quality results.

i dunnow....i looked over the pictures pretty intensely and couldn't find any tooling marks from it being machined. I'm a machinist by trade so I should know what to look for. Billet machined lower would be more desirable depending on the type of aluminum it was machined from, but will probably not be mil-spec. $79 is an awesome price for a stripped lower but careful, I bought an $80 lower and it took over 6 months to get to me.

Order for 2 placed, and will be shipped to my FFL tomorrow. Normally, they're $110, but they just put them on sale yesterday. I was going to order one last week and now I'm glad I held out.

Here's where they're from. TNW Firearms, Inc. Manufacturers of the semi-auto 1919, M2HB and MG34.

Also, check out page 8 on their catalog pdf. http://www.tnwfirearms.com/brochures...ure-8-3-09.pdf

What's the average cost of piecing one together, as opposed to buying a "On Sale" AR-15?

When comparing apples to apples, the savings is typically around $250ish.. Not a bad pay back for an hour's worth of work assembling the lower and being careful not to lose a small pin or spring.
Instructions are free and complete on ar15.com, and it's very easy to do.. My last CAR cost $525 for the kit and $80 for a Superior Arms stripped lower.. (plus $20 transfer fee by my FFL 01)

Of course, from there you're open to dump as much money into it as you wish. I changed out my original A2 stock for an Ace Skeleton stock and also put on a Eotech and backup sights.. In other words, I added $600 to $600 rifle, but I sure like it!! The extra farkles that I added to the gun would have been the same price if I had added them to a $900 Bushmaster, and I bet it wouldn't operate or shoot any better.
