As the title suggests today i put a deposit on a .22 Savage MkII camo patterned rifle.

I am so excited. I had been considering the Winchester Wildcat or this one pretty much although i hadn't had the chance to feel this exact rifle. Last week i did get to hold the full timber version.

The other day in the chatroom i put up the link for used guns to illustrate how much more we pay here particularly for ex-military rifles. And thought while i was there i'd have a look around. Came across the Savage for the best price i've seen, and brand new to boot. AND it was local to me.

So for a gun that retails for around US$260 i paid Au$405. Now with our dollar worth in the vicinity of 93cents US one has to wonder at the price variation.

About 2 weeks ago, maybe 3 i sent in my paperwork to acquire a rim fire so hopefully in about 2 weeks i'll be able to play with my new gun.

Sounds like fun! That should be cheaper to shoot then your MN...sad to hear ya'll have to jump through so many hoops to enjoy the sport.

It's gonna be a lot cheaper to shoot than my Mosin. Ammo is plentiful, i can buy it at good gun store, lol. It's not going to hurt me, physically or financially. If i look after it it will last me a life time.
The funny thing is the ex has said to me not to say anything to his son about it until i have it. Wanted to make sure i knew that i could get a cammo'd sling for it. Needless to say i will be buying a cammo bag for it. And down the track when i'm ready to buy a better scope i might just have to get the matching scope as well, lol.

Ha ha about the roos. I'm not much thinking of shooting roos unless i find one that i need to. I primarily want to stick to feral animals, i know i can live with that. so its bunnies and foxes that will need to be on the look out.

With z-ammo or the 710fps rounds you can get away with firing them anywhere without giving the game away. Infact up at the exes we set up an indoor range down the hallway.. its about 11metres(36ft, or 12 yards). 2 storey house means no one can just wander in and get in the way. Gotta love a shot trap.

If your MKII is anything like mine you’ll love it!
The only problem I’ve got is the lack of shooting time. At 25 through 125 yards it’s a tack driver!
A 3X9 Nikon scope is a nice touch as well.

Savage is a great choice but the Winchester Wildcat is really nice too.

The reason for the difference may be the shipping costs & tariffs/taxes that are incurred in transporting weapons to Aussieland
