Patricia Velasquez is the one GOOD thing to come out of Venezuela. She's been an SI swimsuit model, and has been a few other movies. She is knock-down drop-dead gorgeous! Mother is a South American Native, father is a Spanish engineer, if I recall correctly.

In the movie Predator, when Arnie & crew are atttacking the tango base, there is a quick scene of the rare left-handed SKS being shot.......

The last time I watch EATG, I had forgotten that Rachel's character survived being shot. Made me very happy when she and Vasily got back together. A lot of Hollywood in the movie, but still a good one.
Good to see the actor who played Vincent in "Beauty & The Beast" playing the grizzled older Russian - I BELIEVED him in that part. He's a very good actor!

I have a feeling that you are not going to like what I say, but

There is as much truth in a American made movie about Russians as in Russian movie made about Americans. That means: close to nothing.

It has already been mentioned that you don't let the truth get in the way of a good story. I think we all know that 90% of the storyline is fake. But the time and ordeals it portrays are accurate.

I said it before and I say it again:

this "movie" is pure BS, and, of course, it applies to the book and whatever else is related to it. Don't know what you guys like, cause it's all has nothing to do with reality. It's a BIG piece of FICTION, fantasy of some out-of-whack writer who had no idea WTF he was writing about....

So what does that have to do with the fact that we like the movie? We all know its Hollywood but we enjoy it and take it for what it is. Did I mention Rachel Weisz is in it? Enought said.

fiction is what it's all about. if i want a little truth with my fiction, i'll watch a documentary. still mostly biased but with a kernal of fact to it.

The battle for Stalingrad... 1942/43... Vassili Zaitsev... sniper corps... Rachel Weisz' "bum shot"... Mosin Nagants. Great Story!!! What more do you need?

For non-fiction please refer to the History Channel, Military Channel, Encyclopedia, and 300 other books written on the siege of Stalingrad. Or for the Cliftnotes version: Battle of Stalingrad - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I will be watching it again tonight... Once every 3 months whether I need it or not!

Why is it that all European characters in American movies have British accents? Is there a shortage of Russians who can act?

Kortik, you're from St. Petersburg, right? that might explain his reaction to things. i guess it'd be a lot like a soviet movie about the civil war to us.

I'll agree about ron perlman, he's a good character actor for this sort of thing.
i've often noticed that the russians always seem to be played by brits too, kinda strange when you think about it. although bob hoskins did a pretty good nikita kruschev.
and here's a good one, i watched the hunt for red october last week.
it's funny how many finnish and norse names were in the credits for the russian crew

I'm from Moscow.

The reaction of resident of Sankt Petersburg will be the same. BS is BS.

To all Americans - watch something made in Russia, desirably in
1960s and 1970s, when movies were actually made by people who went thru the war. That may give you better flavor of the events and more accurate details too.

I'm sure Braveheart, john wayne's The Alamo, and gibson's The Patriot are inaccurate as well...but I still LOVE those movies.

Damn straight. I watch a movie for entertainment value, not for historical accuracy. If i want historically accurate i'll watch a documentary and even then some of them get it wrong.
I've heard a bit said about Mel Gibsons historical movies being non accurate representations.
A movie that says "based on" true events is not saying it is real events. The battle was real, the man was real. Just not who he was after. I remember googling him after the movie to find out what happened between the 2 of them and was a little disappointed to find out that the relationship was movie magic.

Yeah, in reality they might have only met once, and what happened to Tanya in real life isn't a happy ending whatsoever.

Cool

Yeah! The history books will soon all say the Holocost never happened. Neither did 911. But there's 6 chapters about Bill Clinton. Anyway Great movie. Watched it at least 60 times. Like red dawn, the green berets, and my favorite The Seige of Fire Base Gloria!

There's plenty of truth to this movie.Stalingrad's in Russia,Vasiliy was a sniper, andnd Rachel Weisz has a nice butt. You can't get much more accurate historically or it's a documentary to Hollywood.
