I've got 8 Mosins in the safe now, counting the Finn, 1 Enfield JC and a 3rd Garand last week. It all started with 1 super bubba'd M-44 with no furniture and this forum. My wife kinda understands, and my 86 yr old grandpa (WW II Navy Seebee) shows up more often "just to look". Welcome to the show, wyattburp! BTW..my last Garand's stock and upper handguard were a terrible orange-red. Not like the awsome reds of our beloved M-N as the M1 should look like walnut. I had to use a stain called "espresso" (black, basically) to get the birch to at least "look" right.

Sorry for the delay..I promised more pics...I'm learning a new level of patience while dying this stock...I've done a lot of wood working in the past, but I've never worked with wood this old before. The stock just got it's first coat of satin sealer (still shiny while it dries). The handguard is all done and looks amazing. Very black. You can only see a hint of another color (brown) when you shine a Surefire led light on it. Regular sunlight reflects complete black!

Here's some pics. I took them earlier this morning while up with the puppy (the main reason for the delay in this project...little guy likes to pee ALL THE TIME!) I'll get good clear pics once it's all done...

Also notice the very nice JMECK scope mount. It'll stay in a scout scope config for now as I don't want to modify the matching numbered bolt I have. If I can pick up another bolt, I'll have it modified with a sniper bolt and throw on a regular scope. I love this mount! I like how versatile it is. Being able to use the stock sights is such a bonus.

Welcome to the addiction, wyattburp.

I agree with you about the bent bolt for when you go to a conventional scope mount. Just be advised that as you have it configured now (I have the same jmeck mount on Natasha), you will only be able to mount a red dot or a fixed-power 2.5x pistol scope. The variable-power LER scopes are all too long to fit on the Weaver rail and still let you work a straight bolt. This is a lesson I learned the hard way with an NcStar 2-7x32 LER scope, and which jmeck and I solved by inventing an extender that screws into the mount, that moves the Weaver rail far enough forward you can throw a straight bolt and still reload with stripper clips. The scope looks like it's on a diving board, but Natasha still shoots to minute of angle with it so I don't care.

Cyrano,

Good to know, thanks for the info! With that being said (that scope you mentioned was the one I was going to try...) I decided to splurge a little bit more and ordered a complete bolt from Apex. I'm trying to decide who to send it to...Boltman or Max_Shepherd... Either way, I'll get a sniper bolt put on it and throw on a regular scope to seal the deal.

btw - I'm also ordering another Mosin today! Woohoo! Wife said it's cool to buy another. Company bonus checks ROCK!... I think I'm going to get one from Classic Arms, they seem to have some nice hex 91/30's in stock right now.
