Para Warthog

I'm getting gun fever. I have not bought one in several months and I have a new gun cabinet with extra room. I want another small CCW. Anyone own or shot a para Warthog https://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/...ducts_id/18241

I like this. I like the Taurus Slim, I like the Kahr PM .45 ans I like the Walther PPS. All are very different price ranges. Price doesn't matter to me as much as quality of the gun for the dollar spent. I don't want the Para just because it is the mose expensive or the Taurus because it is the cheapest. I want the best gun for the money spent. Any suggestions from my friends here?

^ I owned one for a while, but ended up selling it because it didn't exhibit the reliability I wanted. I had some FTF's (more than I wanted) and suspect it was the short gun or maybe how I was holding it. For some reason the 45's I've had have been more succeptible to malfunction than the 9's; short .45's especially.

If you're looking for a small powerhouse, I'd consider a SIG 239. I've had no FTF's in mine and it it is a great gun. You can get it in 9mm, .40, or 357 SIG.

If I were getting another CCW gun, I'd probably get a Kimber Ultra Carry II. My buddy got one of these and it is a really nice gun.

I would be interested to pick up and shoot one of those Para Warthogs. Just by looking at it, the grip seems a bit too short for my wide hands. But I'll bet it's a fine gun too.

If you go smaller than a Commander in 45, you're gonna have problems with jamming.

Not pretty & finish not the best in the world, but for the price ($300 to $400) can't beat a Bersa. Make 380, 9mm, .22, .40 & .45 cal. & most complaints I see is getting 380 ammo. Some hiccups during break-in, but many including myself say no problems from the start. Very good customer service & lifetime warranty. I have the mini Firestorm .40 & no jams, etc in 300+ rounds, FMJ & JHP. They make a Thunder & Firestorm series.Same pistol just difference in shape of trigger guard & grips.

Leaning more and more towards the Slim as I think about it more. I just like the look and I think Taurus is a great gun for the dollar. Not going to buy until Monday when Bud's opens so I might change my mind but the slim just seems to make sense for me where I live and how we dress.

My first CCW gun was an ultra carry. Pretty nice.

I love my Kimber Ultra CDP II. It cycles everything I have put through it without any issue. I had a few at initial break in but almost every gun I have owned has at first. They are accurate recoil is manageable. I would and frequently do recommend it for someone looking for a 1911 small enough to conceal.

I have an XD .40 subcompact I carry and am 100% happy with. Just want something a bit smaller for the summer months living in the southernmost part of Florida. I sincerely show up to work as a Realtor selling $3M + houses in shorts, t shirt and flip flops. Tough to hide a 1911. That is why the slim, PPS or Warthog impressed me. Leaning towards the Slim and pretty much rulled the Warthog out. I still like the PPS. I will decide between PPS and Slim by Monday.

I really like the way the PPS felt in my hands. It pointed nicely and fit me pretty well. I put it side by side my ultra cdp and it wasn't to much smaller, especially with the extended mag in. It is lighter than the ultra by several ounces so that helps. There is an article out in concealed carry magazine that talks about every gun you listed. If you can pick it up it might give you some info to help you decide.

I took a close look at them, Gary, at the last gun show, but not like to hear that they jam.....

I'm nor familiar with that magazine. Where do you find it? I would like to read this article. Is it available on line?

I looked at a Para 12-45 today that looked pretty nice. Used price was $550. It handled nicely, but was heavier than the Kimber which cost double the dollars. The kimber had the Crimson Trace grips and tritium sights along with a two tone finish and an alloy frame.

I use a Kahr P9, or a 638 S&W, or a Keltec P3AT for ccw, depending on conditions. Got no complaints on any of them. Never had a Para, but I think I'd like the LDA version if I got one.
