Buying a new pistol

Hi what is up guys i am from texas and currently own these 2 pistols

my sig 9mm

and my .44

i am looking to add a new pistol to the collection, i was looking at either a 1911 (not sure which one) or a Desert eagle (not sure which caliber)

if i got the Deagle it would pretty much be just to say i have one in my collection, same as the 1911 but also which ever one i get i would like to be my concealed carry weapon, so i need dependable as well as just what i like.... i know the deagle has a lot of hollywood hype so that is why i am hear, to ask you guys what your opinions are

I would go 1911, you can find something that will handle +P ammo.
45acp, a tried and true SD round in any load.
Single, double stack, high capacity, micro, compact, etc.
Many choices to customize this 100yr old platform.
Would be an excellent choice!

For 1911 - Kimber or Springfield. Kimber because I have one for daily carry. It is the Pro Crimson Carry II. I selected the Pro because 4" Barrel & little easier to conceal. I selected crimson trace grips as training aid for "point & Shoot". I use it with empty gun at home. On the range I turn it off & use iron sights. Gun is more accurate than I am. Gentleman at the range proved that to me. Shot one mag (7 rds) with laser & could cover holes with a quarter. Did same with iron sights with same result. This at 21 ft. I don't shoot that well. Has handled both FMJ & JHP right out of the box without a single hiccup. I think Springfield 1911 will be my next one just to have some variety. But, still thinking about it. Might get another Kimber. Main thing is buy name brand & get one that "feels right" to you.
Most name brands make a good product, so research their customer service record. In this respect, Springfield is outstanding & they have a lifetime warranty. Kimber is only one year, but I've been told that if something breaks which shouldn't break, they'll cover it even out of warranty. But, nothing in writing on this so take with a grain of salt. I have not had to use them.

Forget the Dessert Eagle. They are just ego booster guns. They are also very heavy if you want it as a CCW. Springfield and kimber both make a nice 1911 with a 4" barell to make easier for CCW. Kimber makes their Pro Carry with a Crimson Laser Site standard. Kimber is expensive but since you mentioned Dessert Eagle I take it you don't mind a high price tag. I have a full size Springfield 1911. A little big for carry but it wasn't bought to carry. I have been 100% satisfied with it though.

My opinion of a Dessert Eagle is it's a Penis Extension Gun. People buy them just to say "Wow, look at me". There are far better guns at a fraction of the price. For a CCW the 1911 will be much thinner. One other thought with Dessert Eagle. This is something I don't know the answer to. If and when something does go wrong with the gun, how many gunsmiths have experience with them? How tough will it be to get parts for? To get quality work done to it? Nobody wants to think about their gun breaking but it is a machiene and machienes break once in a while.

TX, I can't agree more. Many times people will see me post that I have learned more about guns, gun quality and gun safety here than real life experience. You have been one of my biggest sources of info and one who's opinion I respect a lot. I still think you were a school teacher in a former life.

The DE is just a range toy, if it's what you want that's fine, they are fun to shoot, but don't plan on concealed carry with it. The used gun market is flooded with 1911 clones, take your pick.

Between those two, the 1911 by a mile. It's one of the best pistols available period. Some say it is the best. Since your have a Sig for defensive purposes already and that .44 mag., I suggest going with a shootable 5" model with adjustable sights. The Spingfield Gold Cup would be my choice. There are so many options available, it is hard to know where to start. By far the most popular caliber is .45 auto, but others are available. There are a few 9mm models like the SW Pro Series and a few in .38 super auto which is supposed to have impressive performance. The local dealer sells Springfield, SW and Colt. He's less impressed with Kimber (and does not sell them) whose success seems to come from its aggressive marking. 1911s are accurate, reliable, ergonomic and tough. But then what do you expect from John Moses Browning?

The Desert Eagle strikes me as more of a cartoon gun. Think of the length of a .44mag. cartridge and think of what kind of handle is needed to enclose it. There's a reason why it is a revolver caliber. Plus, the word on the street is that they are not very reliable.

Got to agree with the 1911 comments above. Take a gander at the Springfield Armory lineup of .45's.
