Marlin 30A Glenfield in .30-30win. Iron Sights dialed in a 150yds. awesome for the thick brush and short shots of Iowa with little worry about bullet traveling too far. Just bought a .300Win. Mag. barrel for the Encore, can't wait to sling that for the long distance deer.

QUESTION ? Though I don't need any while shopping at our Wal Mart yesterday I checked to see if sporting goods had all the different rifle ammo on display to sell like they do every year because it's hunting season.

What I found was NO displays of any kind of rifle ammo this year only a few box's of odd ball ammo behind the counter.

Although many caliber's of pistol and rifle cartridges have been hard to come by, I would of thought by now and because it's hunting season everywhere there would be rifle ammo available.

Have any of you seen any common rifle ammo in abundance where you live yet ???

My favorite is my Ruger M77 in .243, had it since I was about 13 (20 + yrs). I shoot Remington 100grn pointed soft point core locks and they do a great job. My son shot his first deer with it and I gave it to him right then and there but I still use it from time to time.

My .22-250 weatherby vanguard synthetic. I own a Remington 700 BDL in 7mm mag but the .22-250 is a little more fun to shoot.

Hmm...I guess my Ruger 77 Mk2 .300 Win Mag. Great rifle, and it'll put em down with some thump. Might be a little much, but makes more sense than a .223 anyway.

The Savage .223 for fallow and stray reds, Kimber Montana in .260 for serious red and elk killing with 120 gr BT's. Scope is a 4X Kahles with QD mounts for the open stuff and a red dot for the bush.
Got the 6.5/06 Husqvarna sitting there but still haven't worked a load up for it yet, it's only the long range rig anyway.......

338RUM - if you are talking about HP as in Hewlett-Packard... we don't have a mining equipment division and it's a US company. Mitsubishi makes everything from video recorders to cars...

My favorite deer rifle is the one that I have in my hands and can shoot accurately with.

I shoot several calibers at deer, nothing bigger than a .308. I prefer the 6MM thru the 7mm cartridges. No magnums for me. But, let me add this little bit. If u like the gun and trust it to do the job, that is the right gun for U. Just use enough gun to do the job quickly.
