I think the Feds are the only ones who can deport illegals and that's the way it has always been, not just with Obama. Local LEO's never had the ability to deport. They can be held for deportation but if the Feds don't send someone to do it, they are just released on to the street. Weird huh?

Rambo, the local LEOs can't even hold them for deportation (read: for ICE to come and pick them up to be taken away and eventually brought up before an immigration judge for determination of their case) unless they can prove via the ICE computer database that the person in question is in fact an illegal alien. That means, someone who came in illegally before and was deported. If the illegal has committed a crime, the illegal is treated like any other criminal. If in the course of the investigation it is discovered that the illegal alien is an illegal alien, that charge can be added on to whatever he/she is being held on. If tried and convicted of a crime, after serving the sentence and being released either for completion of sentence or on parole, ICE can then deport the illegal.

I personally think we ought to adopt the Trade Reform Act Tom Clancy invented for his book Debt of Honor, and apply it not just for trade but also with regard to immigration. It might go a ways toward at least stemming the multicultural approach the leftists and intelligentsia are promoting. But then, I think we need a Constitutional Amendment declaring English to be the official language of the United States, with the government at all levels doing business solely in English, so I'm just an old reactionary and not at all politically correct.

I doubt Obama has the need or the power to do such a thing. Most deportation is within a state, and certain states take a stronger stance than others.

So I guess I'm supposed to get riled up over an "article" that was given without a link or site to search for credibility? I'm supposed to have an opinion without even knowing if this is true or not?

Oh, the Obamination has the power to do such a thing. All he needs to do is tell Homeland Security to crack down on illegal aliens; to change the standard to something more Code Napoleon than English Common Law. In other words, have ICE assume that any alien is an illegal alien unless said alien can prove he/she is not. No visa? No green card? No political asylum (which gets you a green card anyhow)? Then it's back to the Old Country for you!

What Obama does not have is the inclination to do something like that. The balls, if you will. He knows that most new immigrants vote for Democrats because they can see the Dems are softer on immigration issues than the Republicans. Why would the Empty Suit From Illinois send away those most likely to drink the kool-aid?

The current ICE rules really handicap local law enforcement, which is far more likely to catch illegals than ICE is, unless it's a slavery or prostitution ring you're talking about that will make the papers when it's busted. I feel we'd do a lot better as a nation to make the aliens prove they are legal than for us to have to prove they are illegal.

I also feel we ought to give preference to foreigners who want to become American citizens, who can prove they are working toward citizenship by taking the classes that prepare them for the examination, and who above all are learning to speak English. I have no problem with accents. I have no problem with someone who speaks broken English but is obviously trying to speak English. I have no problem with having to grope for a word or not using the exact word. What I profoundly object to is the arrogant demand of the Latinos who come here, legally or illegally, that Americans change the lingua franca of the country from the English it has been since the nation was established to the Spanish the Latinos want it to be because they don't want to assimilate into our culture.

America has its own culture. If an alien does not want to be part of that culture - to assimilate into America, in other words; to become an American - then they should either keep their mouths shut about our culture or go back to where they came from where they like the culture better. And yes, that's reactionary. I don't care. We may not be the greatest country in terms of taking care of our people, but in terms of opportunites for those willing to strive, we are light-years ahead of any other country on the planet. And yes, I am proud of that.

Anybody, regardless of color or ethnicity, should be allowed to LEGALLY immigrate to the U.S. I get the feeling from some people that they don't care so much about the illegal immigration as they do WHO is immigrating.
I just get tired of the BS...my wife's mother is of mexican blood....her family has lived in the El Paso area before it was even Texas...much less the USA. People seem unable to distinguish between a ethnic group and a criminal group (illegals). Not all mexican-americans are illegals. Her family has lived in America longer then my Anglo-Saxon family has (not counting my native American ancestors LOL).
It might not be such a problem if they were'nt flowing in to the country like water over Niagra Falls.
Of course that would'nt be the case if our "leaders" did their jobs.
Hummmm,I now wonder just what they consider their jobs?

Even worth more than their cocaine and marijane exports to the US.

Someone in this country illegally is a criminal. They should be treated as such.
Hey Gringo, it is number two after goo....

Amen brother, Submoa! I love Latinos, especially in low riders, however, the Mexican government has been anti-American since its founding..

The best thing they could do is to declare war on the USA, followed by a quick defeat and then follow the American model to prosperity...Remember the end of the great Japaneses empire and what American occupation did for their economy...

Let me add this, that I believe our foreign policy with Mexico is shaped by our import of over 1.5 million barrel of oil...
