Oh, the Obamination has the power to do such a thing. All he needs to do is tell Homeland Security to crack down on illegal aliens; to change the standard to something more Code Napoleon than English Common Law. In other words, have ICE assume that any alien is an illegal alien unless said alien can prove he/she is not. No visa? No green card? No political asylum (which gets you a green card anyhow)? Then it's back to the Old Country for you!
What Obama does not have is the inclination to do something like that. The balls, if you will. He knows that most new immigrants vote for Democrats because they can see the Dems are softer on immigration issues than the Republicans. Why would the Empty Suit From Illinois send away those most likely to drink the kool-aid?
The current ICE rules really handicap local law enforcement, which is far more likely to catch illegals than ICE is, unless it's a slavery or prostitution ring you're talking about that will make the papers when it's busted. I feel we'd do a lot better as a nation to make the aliens prove they are legal than for us to have to prove they are illegal.
I also feel we ought to give preference to foreigners who want to become American citizens, who can prove they are working toward citizenship by taking the classes that prepare them for the examination, and who above all are learning to speak English. I have no problem with accents. I have no problem with someone who speaks broken English but is obviously
trying to speak English. I have no problem with having to grope for a word or not using the exact word. What I
profoundly object to is the arrogant demand of the Latinos who come here, legally or illegally, that Americans change the
lingua franca of the country from the English it has been since the nation was established to the Spanish the Latinos want it to be because they don't want to assimilate into our culture.
America has its own culture. If an alien does not want to be part of that culture - to assimilate into America, in other words; to become an American - then they should either keep their mouths shut about
our culture or go back to where they came from where they like the culture better. And yes, that's reactionary. I don't care. We may not be the greatest country in terms of taking care of our people, but in terms of opportunites for those willing to strive, we are light-years ahead of any other country on the planet. And yes, I am proud of that.
