Hi guys, I just bought this rifle from a buddy(I hope) that was selling it to help his brother with the high price of chemo. It is an M1A Springfield, Stainless, has a leapers 4X illum. ret. 10 round mag and has about 200 rnds of ammo. Gun has a few scratches on it but all in all it looks to be in very good condition. Did I just get fleeced out of 800 bucks? Thanks for the info.
44MAG.com has real CMI/USGI mags available for under $21.00 each.
Thanks for the revelation Rex. That is a $14-15 difference. It looks like Sportsman's Guide may want to review some of their prices. I would certainly reward the business that gave a better deal on the same product with a bigger overall purchase if I could get substantially “more product” for the money.

You got to watch SG, they are very high on most things they sell. You can normally beat their prices easily with a little shopping around. They have some good "on sale" prices some times but for the most part they are high.

Stainless Steel Barrel, sound like a "match grade" rifle.
We need pictures.
I too just bought one.
bTw, what part of Texas do you live?
Are you a member of the Texas State Rifle Association?
... be careful with the magazines and don't but the pressed type. Make sure the magazine catch block on the back of the magazine is of the milled type.
If you have a SS barrel, you probably have a loaded SA M1A. If it is in very good condition, you can accurize the rifle with a good armorer, that is bedding, venting the gas plug, unitizing the gas cylinder, honing the trigger mech, and relieving the stock in the right places.
When it is accurized, you will be truly surprised at what it can do. Should you want to scope it, look at one of the Sadlak mounts.
I have three fully accurized M1A's and I love them.
My oove affair started with that rifle in basic training when I was issued a Winchester M14.
