If you watch this video through all 5 parts, you will see that there is nothing that could stop the mosin. Even -40 degree winters won't affect it. Assuming you use the cool gasoline and mosin oil mixture to keep it lubed. Other than that, I think I could trust my life with one. Maybe even more so than, yes... the AK-47( )...

Is the ammo corrosive? If so, would your pee be enough to neutralize the salts?

My shooting skills would allow me to be a good hunter.
My two total knee replacements would screw it up, though.

Yes, I would feel confident - at least until the ammo ran out. The Mosin has fewer moving parts than the AK, is easier to clean, is more tolerant of not being cleaned, and if you had to you could probably make a replacement firing pin out of a long nail with a file and lots of time.
In a post-aprocalyptic situation, until people started banding together into village-sized units (call it 500 - 1,000 people) you would not need to worry about ideologies. They'd be too busy trying to survive, and you'd have one of two social setups. Either there would be simple democracy or gang rule, with the strongest thug running the gang. In either situation, the Mosin would be my first choice for a longarm.

I would pick it before any of my guns.Theres just no way you can break something that rugged and simple.LOVE the bear calvary,STALIN.As for lizard people.....I would use a giant heat lamp as bait and pick them off while they sleep.

So if a meteor hits earth there's going to be some naked Mosin men lugging around corrosive ammo and peeing down their barrels.
Take away the whole meteor thing and it sounds like the first annual Mosin Men BBQ and beer bash.
