If a meteor devastated civilization, and you only had a Mosin, would you feel naked?
If civilization as we know it, was destroyed by a meteorite from space, cities leveled, animals roaming over the rubble, life pushed back to the stone age, and you crawled out from under the rubble with a Mosin, and a couple of spam cans of ammo, could you survive? Would you feel confident in your weapon, and your ability to use it to hunt, to protect your kills, to defend your cave and whoever decided to join forces with you? Bottom line, is it tough, rugged, powerful enough to get through the dark times until the sun shines again? I say, I think it's the one weapon that is simple enough, rugged enough, easy to use enough to trust. What do you say?
well in all probability i would be at ground zero of the rock from space, so i would not have to worry about food, protection, shelter, return rented movies on time, and where to fill up my truck.
i have heard that the metor's that devaste the world, are actually disguised space craft bringing space-zombies

I was really hoping this thread would be taken seriously, and not become a farce. But your right in this: if a meteor did strike, it wouldn't be likely that any of us would crawl out of the rubble at all. I was just hoping there would be one little brave guy, and one little brave gal, that would. And that they might be lucky enough to have something better than a sharp stick, or a rock, to help them survive.

I only have 20 rounds for my Mosin so I'd feel naked. It's bad to say this but if the planet's climent changed to where it would bring about my death I'd reserve some ammo to shoot myself IF I was forced to.

I'm just not the "give up" kind of guy. I'd suffer until some Puma grabbed me by the back of the neck and snapped it. I'd throw myself in it's jaws if it meant a couple of brave kids would keep living. If I knew mankind would go on, I'd face the devil himself with a beany flip. It's not that I'm particularly brave or anything, mind you, it's just that I happen to have faith in the reslilience and tenacity of humanity. I guess I'm just crazy that way.

Wrong, unless you lived next door to me here in Kali. With my luck, it will fall right on top of me!
Seriously though Ball Bearing, If you survived, superb chance others did too! Find something else because they will. Hypothetically though, If you were the ONLY one to survive, the answer would be no. A billion hungry dogs, mountain lions, bears, cats, rats, aardvarks and rabid hamsters would all be clamouring for succulent "long pork", they would soon sniff you out and eat you! 2000 rounds won't last long.
I would carry my Mosin until in my daily search (like Kwai Chang looking for his lost brother) I found a "Supremely Viable" 10/22 or a .410 pump with slugs...

Well depending on what is destroyed, then you might be able to find more ammo, or different guns if there is still anything salvageable. If you climbed out from some rubble, there could be some rubble somewhere else local that you know of. Maybe you get a car to work, or it isn't a far walk?

On second thought, what do you guys think about the effectiveness of a Mosin bayonet against the average zombie? Would a stab in the eye do any good or would you have to somehow sever his head.
What about effectiveness of the 54r against space aliens? Or lizard people? There's lots to ponder here when reflecting on our beloved rifles.
