a little quality time

was spent today with part of my collection. Finally replaced a spring in my Glenfield 60, can't wait to try it out and see if that cures its feed problem. Then did periodic inspection/cleaning/oiling on two Mosins and two Turk Mausers.

One of the Mosins is a recent purchase, spent some time on the dark bore and got it to what I'll call frosted. The other MN shines now. Both are 1934 dated, one Tula and one Izhevsk. The Tula came with a very dirty bore, that's the one I spent the time on.

One of the Turks, gosh I'm ashamed to say this, was put away a long time ago with a very dirty bore. No pitting resulted - at least I knocked any corrosive salts out of it. Wore out a bronze brush on it and it is still dark. The other Turk shines now.

Each rifle now has it's tag updated with the date of the last inspection/cleaning/oiling.

I just plain enjoyed doing this. I figure you G&Ger's will understand. Just a pleasant and relaxing way to spend my "Sunday" afternoon - I have Mon. and Tuesday off. Sunny, temperature about 70 degrees, and the wonderful scent of Hoppe's #9. Oh, and a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. All are simple pleasures. Add them up to a fine afternoon. Many more rifles to go but those are for another day like today when the Honeydew list is short.

That does sound like a good day, I need to do the same because we've had lots of rainy, damp days lately.

I think I enjoy tinkering with my rifles as much as I do shooting them. being a mechanic I have a compulsive need to fit anything that is not up to standards. I love breaking them down insprecting them and cleaning them up. I will spend a couple of hours just working on a bolt cleaning it up and tweaking it so that it works as smooht as possible. I would rather spend an afternoon with my rifles than with most people.

I spent lots of quality time with my newly acquired Springfield 03. I just kinda carry it around the house. Help me break in the new hunting boots with all that extra weight

Bring em' on man! I love the cleaning and the mantainence. I find it relaxing. The 3500 miles might make it a little hard though. I really have no desire to visit Arnoldland either. The only part on the States I have not been and do'nt regreat it either.
