South Africa: President Zuma displaying ignorance about guns

The DA has reacted with fury to a suggestion by President Jacob Zuma that South African civilians should not bear arms. After months of tough talk on the need for police to shoot to defend themselves, Zuma told supporters at an ANC Siyabonga ("thank you") rally at Lenyenye stadium near Tzaneen on Sunday, that the country's gun laws needed review.

I don't know if Zuma is ignorant about firearms, but he's certainly as ignorant if not more so than the parliaments of Great Britain and Australia. American statistics clearly show that more guns in private hands equals less crime in the community. So do Swiss statistics.

His little Siyabonga speech ought to be renamed the "See ya later" speech for South Africans' civil rights. He plainly wants to deny the people of South Africa the right to keep and bear arms, and we know what comes after that. I certainly hope the South Africans vot him out of office quickly, for their own good and for the sake of their posterity.
