by Zachary Roth
The CIA misled Congress about its torture program and other issues, the House Intelligence committee has concluded.
In a hearing of the House Intelligence committee this afternoon, Reps. Anna Eshoo and Jan Schakowsky, both Democrats, pointed to at least five instances going back to at least 2001 in which the C.I.A. withheld information from or lied to Congress.
Schakowsky said that a committee probe had found that the CIA is afflicted by a "large disease" of misleading and even lying to lawmakers about intelligence activities.
Earlier this year, Speaker Nancy Pelosi charged that the agency had lied to her about its enhanced interrogation techniques program, during a September 2002 briefing -- provoking outrage from Republicans. But that episode was among the examples that Schakowsky and Eshoo pointed to today.
Another concerned the top secret program to assassinate al Qaeda operatives which CIA director Leon Panetta first told Congress about in June.
A third concerned the CIA's 2005 destruction of videotapes showing the interrogation of al Qaeda operatives.
And a fourth, already known, related to the shooting down of a plane carrying missionaries over Peru in 2001, information about which was concealed form Congress.
In response, a CIA spokesman did not specifically challenge the committee's findings, telling The Hill:
It is the policy of the Central Intelligence Agency to be clear and candid with the United States Congress. Director Panetta has made a relationship of trust, confidence, and respect a top priority
I take any thing said by any politician or any thing said by a news agency especialy one that denotes its self as for the greater good with a huge grain of salt. Congress can say what ever they want as they have seemed to be on a witch hunt of any of cia under gwb. Fact is there are extremists out there who want to kill us, end of story . They play by no rules everthing is fair game. Why should we be worried about simulated drownimgs in a controlled environment ? I guess beheadings are ok?
Earlier this year, Speaker Nancy Pelosi charged that the agency had lied to her about its enhanced interrogation techniques program, during a September 2002 briefing -- provoking outrage from Republicans. But that episode was among the examples that Schakowsky and Eshoo pointed to today.
I was wondering if these two morons realized that Nancy had been proven to be a lying beotch on that charge? Pelosi and then-Rep. Porter Goss (R-Fla.) were the first two members of Congress ever briefed on the interrogation tactics. Then the ranking member and chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, respectively, Pelosi and Goss were briefed Sept. 4, 2002, one week before the first anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
I think the only reason that this was done was to make Nancy Pelosi look like she is telling the truth. She lied! Personally, once we capture and get information from terrorists, we should shoot them.
Trust me, if this were true, Pelosi and the Democrats WOULD NOT HAVE WAITED UNTIL NOW TO SAY ANYTHING.They'd of said something the day they found out. They;d of woken the editor of the New York Times and had him run a front page story and then contacted the heads of CBS, NBC, MSNBC, ABC, CNN, HNN, Bloomberg News and whomever else is left leaning and had them run the story 24/7.
And at worst, if this were true, Pelosi when asked for proof would have handed it to whomever asked on a silver platter. She wouldn't have done NOTHING as she did...
And sometimes, our government and our congress NOT knowing is better then them all knowing. It's called plausible deny-ability.

The ones who complain about these types of things are always those who don't know, or understand, that we live in a very scary world and the only way to remain the big dog in the pound is to be scarier than the next in line.
The CIA had a PLAN to try to train people to assassinate terrorists around the world. It was never implemented and never got past the training idea phase. My big question is: Why the HELL haven't we been doing this for the last 40 years? Terrorists understand one thing: Death. We should give it to them. Trials and dog and pony shows are just for the media. Arrest and detention and imprisonment has never reduced terrorism. Treating terrorism as a law enforcement issue and not a military issue is what has lead us to the situation we are in today.
SITUATION: Not enough dead terrorists to make a real difference.
SOLUTION: kill more terrorists.
We have to fight dirty. They do. And being a member of the military I can say without hesitation they would have no shortage of volunteers for the program.
It is sometimes the job of the CIA to be misleading or slow in telling as not to jeopardize the lives of field officers and foreign operatives. Congress and the mainstream media already have enough of “that” blood on their hands. Now, what excuse does the “Congress” have in being misleading or slow in telling ...?
