Mini-14. I don't care what people say, they may not be super accurate, but when I pull the trigger it goes bang every time. My next one will be in 6.8 SPC.

If I had to shoose between those two guns, it would be the Ruger. A little too much of an attention getter in my book, but I would trust it just fine.

Both are excellent choises with many of the same attributes (decent accuracy, super reliable, common ammo), but I would go with the AK.

The AK has a more menacing appearance (great for keeping sheeple at a distance), cheaper start up cost with lower priced mags and ammo, easier to repair in the field/parts swap out with out much of a problem, and wider assortment/cheaper upgrades.

I would choose the Ak. I had a Mini 14 once and it was an o.k. weapon. But the AK has the price advantage, and the AK is a tried and true design built for the battlefield.

I agree... There is something to be said about how popular it is on battlefields all over the world.

I sold my mini, but kept my AK. And my AK is a .223 chamber. A Norinco underfolder.

haveing shot both weapons... advantage AK, its simple numbers... there are more of them out there, they are coming back down to a better price again, ammo is fairly cheap, more parts and add ons then carter has liver pills, and there's a very good reason why it is the most widely used rifle on the battle feild today... its one ruged MF...from sand to snow it wont fail.

Due to cost and accuracy issues, neither. I'll take a Saiga or an SKS anytime.

Pulling a trigger and going "BANG" is not enough, you need to be able to hit something at a reasonable distance. If I had to choose between just those two? AK. I had a Mini. Very reliable, couldn't hit a barn if you were inside of it. I got rid of it.

No contest!

AK!

I had three mini 14s and two mini 30s. I sold them all and bought AKs.

The Ruger Minis are nice plinking toys, but they are NOT battle guns.

AK, For a .223 platform the Ruger has magazine problems and is inaccurate.

No need to mock the accuracy with an AK...

The AK is more than adequate accuracy wise 150-200 yards and in is sufficient in caliber size (assuming 762x39) to stop man for defense or a deer for food better than a .223 would). Parts are common and there are many upgrades available for rail systems etc.

ALso consider that most civilian defensive rifle shootings while no where near as common as handguns are pretty much all under 50 yards which makes this an even smaller point.

An AK wont be as MOA accurate as a good AR15 but again its more than adequate for the range you would be shooting at in any SHTF situation that I can think of. If you have to make a 300 yard shot why not just go around the trouble and avoid it.

Besides the Ruger Mini 14's accuracy deficiencies are just as well known when comparing it to other .223 rifles.

I know I could roll down a wet dirty, rocky hill with my AK and land in a muddy creekbed and I know it would still work.

I'd personally go for a 12 gauge as it's much more versatile. However, of those two, I'd take the AK given that ammo is readily available for it. If SHTF, you're supplies may run out. Choose the gun that you think will be most readily available for in a barter/trade situation in a long term SHTF event.

AK,Just cause I can clean it alot faster then a Mini.I would also rather have the 7.62x39 round cause I can get em so cheap.
